  1. I have a book in my waiting room called "how to tell you're a hipster". Pretty funny stuff. Maybe google it. Haha.

I made one out of an 85 Chevy truck cap. I kinda like them.

Not sure that this is a "hipster" thing. I've been seeing hubcap clocks hanging in any number of antique malls and crappy do-wop themed "50s" diners for a long time now...

Besides, some of my best hot rod doodads came from young kids selling stuff in "hipster" establishments

  5. I bought these from some guy's widow, cheap. She had no idea what they were, I don't either, maybe something for an old car. I cut out the center parts with some tin snips and mounted these black velvet paintings. Gonna try to sell them at the flea market. Pretty cool, wadya guys think?

  8. clunker, You have to sell me one of those. It will look great hanging over my McCulloch VS57 drink mixer. Do you have any with a bull fighter? I'll trade you my Ed Pink blower chip bowl that I welded drink holders on to.

  10. 2017 "hipster" = 1960's "too cool for school"

    It matches definition exactly.

    From the interweb:

    For example, on the first day of a shoot on a film set, not knowing anyone, I can look around and tell you exactly what peoples' jobs are by how they look;

Grips: dressed in black, beer bellies
Camera assistant: North Face catalog, oblivious to anyone else
Art department: covered in paint stains
Producer: using lamp with human skin from holocaust

The "Director" is without fail 100% of the time the biggest "hipster" in the area:
Shit kicker work boots, without a scuff
    Full beard
    $1500 eye glasses
    Full arms of tattoos
    Hair gel
Skinny jeans (despite being 40+ years old)
    Designer shirt

The red ones mine (85 hp) and the two blue ones (60 hp) I made for my boy's.
Don't worry or fret though they all could be reused on a motor as noting was destroyed in their making. IMG_0263.JPG photo (1).JPG

Whatever that thing is for "more than a dollar"....its crooked. Top thingy is not centered.

I've seen plenty an old fart making those clocks, definitely weren't hipsters.

  14. Similar idea but not quite as fancy as yours. The copper pipe is how I got juice to the indicator bulb in the filter bowl. I posted it in the garage art thread.

Very Nice! ...... not just art but functional.

  16. Thanks, I like yours also. Where did you get the giant plugs? Did you add the heads to existing lamps that you can buy? I would like to create a vintage looking spark plug display for a buddy that collects old plugs.

Man I would post up my garage clock but I fear being called a "hipster" I bought a rusted banjo steering wheel off Adam401 and tacked numbers onto it. I knew better to not buy the correct horn button and drill a hole in it. But I did find a 40 custom horn button for $10 (didn't fit right) but it makes for an awesome garage clock and everyone loves the damn thing.

I've got a lot of hub caps. I used one old Ford one to make a wall clock and another to make an air cleaner top. Neither was pristine, neither was rare. I like looking at them, and they are mine. So I drilled holes in them. Time to move on, I think.

no pristine hub caps were harmed in the making of this cool clock, yes, I consider myself a hipster and have made and will make more clocks out of damaged hub caps. No whippings please.

Awesome, perfect shop desk lamp. Need a mulllered up carb to run wires through, then the air cleaner for the shade over the top, but that's some badass work right there.

The giant plugs I sourced thru Summit's Genuine Hotrod Hardware catalog, they were a resin based lamp that I sawed the lower base off, then machined the distributor out of billet aluminum to fit and join the head water neck and lamp base.

I'm no hipster, but I love my 54 Mercury clock.
Five dollar swap meet hubcap and a 99 cent Goodwill clock for the mechanism. Better than sitting in a box for another 30 years. Or getting scrapped. I think repurposing is a way to allow our passion to be a larger part of our lives in an artistic way.
I consider building a hot rod or kustom a form of art.
