  1. image.jpg Here is a piece of the steel/copper coated line. I scratched off the copper to give y'all some relief.
Copper lines are ok for the oil system though right????

I think it was the rigidity of the line going directly from the engine to the bracket on the firewall they were concerned about. As long as there is a flex line going from the engine to the hard line at the firewall bracket I believe they'll be happier. (All hard line would develop a leak soon and nobody wants that!)

Durex huh...up this way they don't filter gas...:p Whats in a name...I remember the Lancaster Bomber I worked on had Merlin engines with Maytag rocker covers...during wartime many companies moved from regular production to wartime assist production.
You might want to have a extinguisher mounted inconspicuously...myself included.

Great thread - I've been following you along the way.
Question - when it comes to tie rods and drag links, when did the more modern "ball end" come about instead of the original ends like you have pictured on this page?

  12. image.jpg image.jpg I belive picture number 1 "ball end" was used up to 1934. And the other picture number 2 started in 1935 on ford cars. Hope that helps ya out.

  15. image.jpg image.jpg Headlights are almost done. I'm trying to do it like my grandpa did in 1947. So all I'm using is a torch to heat and bend and weld back together. And yes I hope it looks like 17 year old did it as that was his age when he did his.

  16. My bet is that you will get it done & it will look great. Post a photo when the lights are mounted...

  17. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Well Dennis I didn't get it finished up but got a good jump on it. Gas welded and a little hammer welded to smooth it out a little bit. Even peaked the center bar like grandpas was. It's hard to hold it up to the car and take a picture so sorry for the cock eyed pictures.

  18. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Here you can see how I'm cutting off the headlight mounts and then hammer welding them back together to form one solid rod with too mounts for the frame. Then I will cut these and bend them to be the bottom mounts to the frame and I will weld the headlight bar to them.

Normally I keep my big fat mouth shut when it comes to apposing positions... except when it comes to cowl lights! I hate'm almost as much as a Don McLean song.
