hey all, i am in need of suggestions for carburetors on a 59 283, here are the specs on the motor.. 59 block, punched out 60 over power pack heads 60cc 1.72/1.5 running aproximately 9.5-1 compression comp cams 262XE 0.462 in/0.469 ex msd streetfire distributor I am looking at a holley 570/600.. do you think that's too much CFM for a relatively mild street motor? the forums I read say to stick to 500 cfm for a 283. thanks for lookin!
A Edelbrock 500 or 600 holley would work just fine, properly tuned . IMO. the holley will deliver more performance .
I have a very similar 283, bored .60 over, cam, etc. I run a 500 Edelbrock and it is very spunky... You have a great little engine there
If you don't like tuning put a Holley #1850 electric choke on it. If you like to get the most out of it put a Holley 600 double pumper on it and tune for best overall performance. Notice I didn't say anything about an Eddy!
The problem with a '64 P/U is when you open the hood it's a LOOOOOOOng way down to the motor! You need an induction system that will fill the void, maybe a 471 blower or Injection if money is no object! Or Trips like this (4 sale!) will help take up some real-estate.................................
