hey all, i am in need of suggestions for carburetors on a 59 283, here are the specs on the motor..
59 block, punched out 60 over
power pack heads 60cc 1.72/1.5 running aproximately 9.5-1 compression
    comp cams 262XE 0.462 in/0.469 ex
    msd streetfire distributor

I am looking at a holley 570/600.. do you think that's too much CFM for a relatively mild street motor? the forums I read say to stick to 500 cfm for a 283. thanks for lookin!

A Holley 600 with vacuum secondaries will be just fine. They are very forgiving.

How high do you plan on revving it?

I'm running a Holley Street Avenger 670 CFM with vacuum secondaries on a .060 327 with a Comp Cam 262H that runs real strong.

I have two cars with '57 283 engines. My roadster runs a WCFB Carter with about 400 cfm. My '55 Chevy has a 500 cfm Edlebrock. Both engines are recent builds and run very well with the small four barrel carburetors.

Buy a 1605 Edelbrock, bolt it on and enjoy your car running right.

I've read that the 670 is really a 600 tested or flowed differently to get the bigger number,,,not sure if true or wives tale
Either way that or the 600 VS would be good, although the Holley 3310 780 came with the 302 sbc I beleive

My choice would be a mechanical secondary double pump 600 cfm Holley.
