Well i got the flathead all together and turned my attention to the frame. At one point it had some damage to left side frame rail. The top frame rail was bent down. Used my torch and some pliers and worked the top rail level. It worked out ok and looks alot better. I also extended the radiator mount pads to give me a little extra clearance to fit this 8ba in. If anybodys tried to fit an 8ba in a model a . Its tight!
I ended up converting my 8ba to the 59 configuration up front for more room. Not much room up there. I like your idea too. --louis
I really didnt want to cut into the firewall, i did have to indent the right side to be able to get the head off. I also used a mid 60's 12v generator and machined the mounting tabs off and fit a 37 fan mount generator pulley and fan. I also trimed the front pulley off the the double crank pulley.
I have been looking at that same radiator. They do a brass one as well and I have been trying to decide between the two. Edit: After seeing yours I went ahead and ordered the aluminum one.Did you get a stock height or chopped radiator? --louis
It cost twice as much which is why I went with the aluminum one. Coat of black paint and most won't know the difference. --louis
I powder coated my aluminum radiator (avatar), satin black, cost $40. This is a great build, watching!!
Thanks! I bought some of the eastwood radiator paint for mine. I never heard of powder coating a radiator.
Heres a pic of of the car mocked up with some splash shields i picked up at Pate this year. Not sure if im gonna run them or not.
I like it. Reminds me of loudpedal's roadster. Always liked this car. If you decide not to use them I need a set for my full fendered project. --louis
Thanks for the positive feedback guys! Heres a little update. Working on the steering. Picked up a 48 f-1 steering box off craigslist. Got it torn down and parts ordered for a full rebuild Got the steering box cut and model a sector gear housing according to "the book" Parts cleaned up in the blast cabinet, ready to be welded together. Cleaned up some original tie rod ends as well
There are a lot of things I've never heard of, and powder-coating radiators is one of them It seems to me that the powder coating would insulate the radiator fins from the air, decreasing the amount of heat transfer which could occur. It will be interesting to learn how well a coated radiator cools.
Worked on the gas tank and battery box tonight. Im using a "tanks" 17gal universal tank mounted in the trunk. Decided to go with the Odyssey pc680. Fabbed up a mount for the gas tank that ties into the subfloor and anchored at the top to the quarter support. Should be sturdy enough. Made a box and hold down for the battery. Made the Rack for the tank out of 1" square tubing Battery box I need to get a piece of sheetmetal to make a bulkhead between the tank and battery. Im happy with the way it turned out
I like that tank! It looks custom made to fit. I was originally going to use one of the spun Aluminum ones, but I like the way that one fits. Link, if others are interested; http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/p...uct_id=82/category_id=133/mode=prod/prd82.htm
Got the tail light bracket on. Big thanks to Mike Bowling for the new bracket. I had fabbed up another one, didnt really like the way it looked. Mike stepped in and offered one up out his stash. Looks much better
Pulled the spoon pedal assembly out the 35 ford pickup. Pretty tight fit, but its gonna work good. Gonna have to heat and bend the pedal when i get the linkage hooked up
