Projects Unearthing a StAr DeStroyer! 1931 Coupe w/394 olds-

I wont be using mine for a while, they are for my T-bucket, which I am forbidden to work on by both my wife, daughter, and several Hambers (who know me all too well), until my '39 is finished. See earlier post regarding my ADD and my daughters attention span...

They went together slick as shit! Took the spindles out of the freezer- put some anti-seize on and heated the adapters- slid them on with a pipe that fit the O/D- bamb- 15min later both spindles were done and had Buick hubs and drums bolted up! (-;

Right?? I know- the good news is while making progress on the roadster I made headway on the coupe. I'm running the same rear so the centering rings for the axle shafts/drums and the locating rings I made for adapting 12" backing plates I made double of so I have a set for the coupe. I'm running an olds rear in the coupe with buick drums too just because I love the looks of them so much. Will be a lot easier to convert that one though because I'm not changing the bolt pattern so I don't have to redrill the hubs. I am looking for a set of rear F-2 backing plates though! EDIT: I FOUND the backing plates! Now I'm just looking for an extra pair of Buick drums for the rear of the coupe.

Started making my front and rear batwings for home made hair pins- drew these up on CAD and had the plasma table up the road slice them out of 3/8" flat stock.



Also got a set of 4 15x6 5on5 steel wheels for the coupe as well...

Have everything tacked together- need to make the inserts for the bones. I bent and tapped the bones myself. Using two ends of f-1 drag links- the ends are different so I used two draglinks the hairpins I'm making for the rear will use the other matching pair. Really dig the looks of it so far-

Tuck i'm really hesitant to critique your work and creativity but... Have you considered minimizing the front axle inspired gussets to more closely resemble its spindly almost nothing left look? Like only using the middle and end shapes not the whole pieces that make up the capsule shaped long holes? Or just enlarging all three per hairpin?

Wyatt- yeah I think the insert piece is going to have one hole the diameter of the opening of the hairpins and have that same radius on each side more like the axle- I think we're on the same page. I'll do some paper templates before I decide on the final.

Love the hubcap choice, I am running those same Chrysler caps on my Model A.

 

Work in progress...




Cut up some 1/2 rod and turned and threaded the ends. Marked the center and bent them around a radius- then I bent it to flow with the axle- it's got about a half inch clearance everywhere I know it doesn't look like it in the pic. I'll make an insert for it with a tapered hole for the tie rod end.

 

Ignore the backward spindle and the upside down shackle I needed that stuff out of the way when I was bending-

 

Was thinking something like this with a ball mount and chromed- Instead of running a bolt in ball I'm just going to weld a ball end in the gusset insert. Plan on running a 32 drag link to a f-1 box.

Haven't been online much.....awesome build.....best thing I have seen in awhile.

 

Here is a shortened version with a more squared off radius- makes more sense to me to cut it back- I dig the crazy hoop but it's too "far out" for this build.

Agreed. 2.0 is the one.

 

It's a good thing you shortened the arm 'cuz it takes a really long pitman arm to accommodate a long steering arm. Pesonally, I like quick steering achieved with a short steering arm and a long pitman arm but you can adjust both [or either] lengths to get the full lock and steering feel you like ...lookin good.
