Well, there she sits with the fenders on and done for the time being.
Going to take them off and move on to the next few tasks before I can take it all apart and get parts off to the chrome shop etc.

Nice to see that light at the end of the tunnel.

Don't you want to drive it before you tear it apart? :p

Thanks everyone. As far as driving it goes, as much as I'd like to do so I know enough about myself to know that if I put it together and start driving it, it might never come apart for paint and end up looking ratty :D
    Heaven forbid :D:D

It's in the details so they say :)
Heres a small one to prove that I have been doing something :D

The dilemma was a way to cover the removable steering wheel hub.

If you cover it then you can't get at the collar to remove the steering wheel

The solution I came up with is a cut down cup from a Stanley thermos.

It ends up being a tiny bit larger than the Ididit steering column but still fits the hub and looks good.

A ring welded to the bottom edge of the cut down cup and a couple of finger holes added to release the wheel.

A skin of filler and a bunch of sanding for paint. :D

And :D the fenders have found a home for the foreseeable future :D

Until I decide to finish and mount them if that day ever comes ;) :D

Building them was a fun exercise,
and they are available if I want to use them.

Spent some time today fabricating a rather complicated little device. :D

There will be 2 of them and they will mount behind the kick panels down by my feet.

Can you tell me what they will be? :D

I did something very similar with an exhaust reducer. I think yours looks more refined- nice job!

Right you are, and they will be self retractable too. :)

Too small, wouldn't hold near enough :D

Well, back at it. I finished the passenger side door check strap.
A small modification to the spring retractor assembly I had built was needed.
I had allowed for 3" of travel and had to reduce it to 2".

I got some nice smooth and strong thick weight 1" nylon webbing from the outdoor supply.
The retractor mounts to the framework I built to hold the ABS kick panel.

It works well. Nice and clean and the door will not hit the header now.
That will help once it's painted.

Another thing that pleased me was the way the door functions.
I wasn't sure how the strength of the springs I used would work out.
As it turned out, they work nice and smoothly, the strength of the spring is enough to retract the strap properly but not enough to actually pull the door away from any position from partially to fully open.
Having a flat strap barely visible when the interior panels are in place will be nice.
Now for the drivers side :)

Finished the drivers side, and now I will move on to cutting and fitting the ABS plastic kick panels and door panels.
I also have to figure out side panels with arm rests beside the seats and the wrap around panel behind the seats.
    Should be fun.
After that unless I come up with something else, it's take her apart time :)

The first interior panel is made and snapped into place.
1/8" abs plastic and you can see the cutout and glued on cover for the door check strap to operate freely.
Works good and is ready for upholtery later.

    Thanks

I buy it at Johnston industrial plastics here in Edmonton.
They sell a 4x8 sheet for a reasonable price unlike some other places that ask about twice as much.
