hi everyone , last week I ran on to a 1966 389 Pontiac , it dosent look that bad had not been run in over 20 years so I tore it down the crank and block is in great condition , outside of needing some rings ,rod bearings , and 2 pistons ,it will make a great engine , so heres my question ,I would like to use this in my 30 tudor , so have any of you guys ever done this ,I would love to hear from ya , thanks guys
No don't you don't want it they are POS motors and definitely not dependable in any way shape of form. I have actually owned two '66 Ponchos, a Goat and a Grand prix. Both had 389s, the Goat had the higher performance motor of the two but either one would have been a good candidate for an A bone in stock trim. Yes as @Primered Forever ask Jeff ( @flamedabone ) he is mister Pontiac and can give you all the ins and outs of making one work in an A sedan.
I have a 455 pontiac and a Munci in a 35 Chevy pickup. Made my own motor and trans mounts. Heres a pic of it going in after a rebuild.
I had a 400 in a 70 gto and it had 4spd ,it was a dog , had a chevelle with a 350 that would run rings around it, allways kind of wanted a 389 don't know why ,thought it would be kind of cool in a jalopy
