Rod and Custom used to do that with the center page and the mag was stapled together.so you could carefully remove the center sheet and if you did it right the staple holes weren't too noticeable.

 

Very subtle Customizing on my latest build...
- Hot Rod Flatz Black, with high gloss black pinstripe pattern along upper sides
- Bumpers color-matched to the 15" mags
- Molding inserts painted gold
- Rear tail light panel removed, and bullets added
- Side-exit true dual exhaust

Since its LSR weekend, here's a couple from last year. Was a beautiful Merc!!

 

One nice yet subtle caddy!

 

The skirts following the body lines on that '55 Dodge is very well done, very subtle if you're familiar with those cars.

 

He made them himself. Very slick for sure. We dug that car out of a barn from the original owner. Been setting for 20-30 years before he heard about it from a friend. That's the paint that was on it also, just rubbed the white (and added the scallop panels) and scotch brited the blue. But you can see he tried to blend the quarters when he built the skirts.

Always liked that Dodge from the first time I saw it...'55's /'56's were my favorites and then there are '59 Dodges...I'd build one of them in a heartbeat if I could find one that's not rusty...

Well, definitely meets the definition of a mild custom that's been nosed, decked, shaved, lowered and with a 50/51 Olds one piece windshield.
Soon the headlights will be frenched/tunnelled.

 

View attachment 3189103 This car is mild custom defined. It has frenched headlights, rounded hood corners, radiused wheel wells, and rolled pans. It was nosed and decked, dechromed, and had the door handles removed. This is the way they were done.

 

Really nice ride. If you are going to invest in the time and effort to french the headlights, consider grafting on the 55 or 56 Oldsmobile headlights. It a subtle mod that adds a lot.

Spitbucket....I'm aware of the 55/56 Olds rings and yes they are a subtle mod. However, I find that it depends on the style, the Olds rings seem to call for "elegance" such as skirts, lakes, full caps and nice two-tone pastel looking paint.

Myself, I prefer the 52/54 Merc headlight rings and trim. From a labour point of view, easier to accomplish and
are slightly "tunnelled" versus the "proper" frenching.

I had not considered the difference in theme. Re: hot rod custom or custom hot rod. That is way above my pay grade. I'll leave that to others to determine. Looking forward to seeing what you accomplish.

 

I only plan to french the headlights and possibly the tail lights and that's it.

No fancy paint, will re-do the satin black where needed.

Then pay some attention to detailing the engine bay

Here's one from Oregon, this one was my dad's he bought it off a lot in portland oregon in 58or59 it's the car he drove when my parents met, she still talks about most of there dates included her flagging a drag race on the dike road. I'm currently building a 50 Bel air to look as close to this one as I can
