Found some more old pictures from Bakersfield (Famoso), track opened in the mid-50s as "Minter Field," indicating its earlier status as an Army Air Corps training field:

Here is another shot of the gold dragster I posted earlier, no ID...even a chrome rear end housing

    2-6-2015_029.jpg
Jarvis Earl's Buick powered dragster. Jarvis was from La Canada, where he was a neighbor of Don Montgomery, first ran a straight-8 dragster with a body like the gold car above, then built this slingshot...Tom Dyer, who later drove the Ansen & Pink dragster, is driving here.

    2-6-2015_042.jpg
Ed Losinski, in the "Purple Car," near lane, racing Jim "Jazzy" Nelson in Nelson's side-by-side flathead powered car. Notice that the orange orchards across Famoso Road have yet to be planted. (Jack Chrisman later bought Ed Losinski's car, made it into a slingshot, and ran a gas blown Chrysler in it).

and, speaking of Jazzy Nelson, here is his old Fiat competition coupe at Bakersfield after he sold it...once held the world drag racing ET record with a fuel flathead.

Here is a better look at Ed Losinski's dragter seen above...here he is running Harry Duncan's Chrysler...Duncan, who invested in some really nice drag cars, owned a construction company, "Duncan-Built Homes," as seen on the door of the Ford pickup, also painted "Duncan Purple." Harry also partnered with Art Chrisman, among others.

Bakersfield from the air....you can see how huge the place was (and still is)

Drake Viscone at Dover drag strip, one of many Viscone cars sponsored by Carmel Ford. Drake was last working for Roush Racing in NC, I bought a trailer from him about 5 yrs. ago

Here's another shot from the staging lanes at Cordova - in our area early Ford gassers kind of rare as to the Chevy's and Willys.

  18. I remember this Model A well. Ray Zang of my hometown, Clifton, NJ. Ray went on to run numerous cars over the years

  19. Yes, putting it on Larry (Butch) Leal. I'm looking for more shots of the Potter's '61 Ford if anyone has them.

  20. Looks like the old Pocono Drag Lodge, Wilkes-Barre, PA

Great shot....the meet in '55 had several blown Chryslers and fuel Arduns, but the winner that day was Aubrey Hilton in a fuel flathead, which would later get the blown Chrysler in Hashim's car (nearest camera), which ran than as Hashim, Hylton, and Crossley.
