I think the car racing the Greek at Lions is GBP running a Hilborn 'bug catcher' instead of the 'four holer' and scoop. I think.

  17. I posted this dragster that my dad drove on my thread . I didn't know much history about it until one of the guys told me . It belonged to Warren, Coburn, & Miller and they had 2 cars the 1st pic 1964 is the frame of one of the dragsters we think my dad helped built. The 2nd car around 1968 with my mom pregnant with me in the background is the one he raced for awhile . I don't know if he drove the 1st one he help with building . [IMG]

Michelle, your father certainly passed away with memories. It appears most of his dreams probably came true.

Great photographs, thank you for sharing.

Just got back from the Middle East, and just found this. The nose on this car was from a car that Hippo Brammer built prior to the car he built with Tom Poindexter. It was a SPE car, painted "Hippo pink," running a late Desoto and later a blown Chrysler with a Hilborn 4-port. Bill Alexander sometimes drove. After Hippo ran out of money he sold me the nose from the car, which Willy Sutton built. I had wanted Willy to build the body on my car, but couldn't afford his fees (which he showed me why they were high by giving me a piece of aluminum to run through an English roller, which I wadded up into a ball).

Finally back from the Middle East, here are a couple from George Klass:

Tennessee Boll Weevil -- Raymond Godman was paralyzed from a sniper's bullet in Korea, but that didn't stop him from building some of the fastests modified roadsters in the country...I think that this is the '57 NHRA Nationals. Preston Davis usually drove, but don't remember if he was driving at this meet. Raymond Dyer also drove the Boll Weevil.

Mackey & Veselka, from Texas. They ran a really well built tube space frame chassis on this car, seen here running a Bantam body. Later they took off the body and ran it as a dragster.

Westerberger & Bill, well built modified roadster

Dave Hough, after a blown Chrysler replaced the blown Olds...still a steel body in this shot
