    Exactly.

I'm 6'3" and I actually fit in it pretty good... So, I'm thinking it's not gonna be too bad.

Oh and I haven't lost my hair yet, but it's been thinking about it lately.

Great weather this week for that kind of hooliganism. If you want a 283, I have one for free.

first you draw me in with what this place is all about...a 283/4 speed...hell yeah. Then the engine is toast...find another one...stick to the original vision...no crate motor...use real old neat shit...you always lead by example, please don't cop out with a crate motor/5 speed.
You don't need to put a QC rear in it...spend that money on the new 283....can you tell I'm back in the cancer ward on pain meds...otherwise, I would never talk to you in this tone...luv ya man

You guys are on the right forum - that's for damn sure.

I'd love to do a 283. LOVE. But, we are really budget minded on this car man... and we don't want to score another motor just to find that it needs a hefty machine shop bill as well. We haven't ordered a crate motor yet. We are still looking...

But keep in mind that this car is about being both fun and budget friendly.

Sounds like its time for a good old fashion "hamb rebuilt 283 hunt".

How hard could it be to find a 283? Aren't they belly buttons?

The one man, one day chop is just about done now. I've been working along side Keith for almost a year now and it never ceases to amaze me how he can produce such quality work so quickly.

Plus, today is his birthday... How about that?

  15. The '57 283 in my truck was purchased at the swap meet for $300. I drained the water(!) and oil out of the pan, scraped all the sludge out of the pan and lifter valley and did a rattle can rebuild. That was 5 years ago? We drive it there and hammer on it every year at the Hamb drags and have driven it 1200 miles round trip to the Hill climb the last three years and beat the piss out of it running up the pass! Take that free 283 and do the same!

    Rebuild/schmebuild.

(I realize you are a professional shop so are being held to a higher standard but if someone buys it they can put a crate in it later?)

  16. Several 283's & 327's on the bay right now. Some with warranties. One was in Texas:rolleyes:
I know, mind my own business. :p

    This.

If we were doing this car for ourselves, that's exactly what we would do... But Keith get's all "professional" and shit when he knows we are gonna ultimately sell the car. He won't put his name on a mystery... I get that.

    Thanks.

  21. Instead of taking time doing all that research you should have just put a post up on a place called the HAMB. Somebody would have recognized that first car in an hour!:)

Since your on a budget don't you still have the small block out of your 38 sitting under a bench? Stuff that in, and see you at the HAMB drags.

4" is indeed perfect for a 28-9 coupe. Y'all nailed it good, and the 1/4 window still looks right. That's the real "tell" to my eye on an A cpe chop. I dig the position on the engine thing, not using an unknown for pro reasons. And crate or not you can still use the old school 4 speed. It is after all "the right place" as you said so...

Well fellas... No updates today. Despite Tardel's rather stringent use of eye protection, homeboy has found himself in the ER this morning - metal in the eye.
