Projects 1931 Model A Coupe Y-Block Build (Father&Son)

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by NathanxStewart, Jan 4, 2016.

  1. We had a reversed eye spring on the car and there was not enough travel between the frame and the undropped '32 axle ,so we put a standard eye spring on the car to solve that problem. Then it raised the front end up too much and we didn't like it so we used a dropped '32 axle to lower the car to where we wanted it to be. Then that caused the tie rod to hit the wishbones so we had to drop the steering arms an 1 1/2"

  2. Mounted the radiator core, we welded a stud on each side of the frame to bolt it down. We made aluminum braces for both sides as part of the frame for the radiator. Now onto making the tanks, and filling reservoir.

    Great craftsmanship going on here!
The fact that you're "young" makes it all the more impressive.

The 'dropping' of the steering arms was too.

  10. Thank you! It was the only way we could get the car to sit how we wanted it to.

Very nice work! It looks like it'll be a car that will be driven hard! You've definitely got some great fabricating skills!

  12. Fabricated the lower tank and made an inlet for the radiator. Had to shape the inlet like that because the radiator is in front of the crossmember instead of on top of it like normal.

Alright Nathan! The family tradition continues. Awesome.
Congratulations on your ongoing coupe build...it's lookin' great. Lovin' everything about it.
And congrats on your new upholstery job as well. Happy for you and proud of you. An artist is an artist, whether it's to do with music, fabricating, upholstery or otherwise. Considering your family background, your integrity, good work ethic and your artistic skills, you're gonna be a natural. I wouldn't be at all surprised that in years to come, we'll hear guys saying that you're the go-to guy in this neck of the woods for custom upholstery.
I haven't been frequenting the main board much in recent times, but I'm gonna be watchin' this build as you go...and enjoying it immensely.
All the best to you, Nathan. - Rick

  17. Thank you so much for the kind words Rick! I really appreciate it. I hope that's the way it plays out. I'm going to continue trying my best and learning as much as I can about old cars. Thank you again!

  18. Fabricated the top tank out of aluminum and made an outlet in the tank. We made the filling reservoir out of a small fire extinguisher from an Indy car.

you guys should seriously consider bringing the car up for the Detroit Autorama.. end of february. I'm 90% sure I'll have my car in the Extreme portion of the show (traditonal hot rods and customs). Its always a fun time!
