I used the stretch-dropped axle with 1932-4 spindles, 1932-4 perch bolts, and a shortened pitman arm on the steering box. The drag link, tie rod, kingpins, brakes, and brake actuators are all standard Model A. It all bolts together, but I don't think you can get by with stock spindles without some modification.

Sorry for the complete lack of updates on this tub, but there hasn't really been much progress either.

I spent a year overseas and have more really cool projects than any one guy should have. The phaeton has been collecting dust for far too long though.

The top and side curtains were acquired locally through a love triangle sort of trade deal. It was bought from the son of the original owner.

The top is a genuine Carson Top that was made by Houser's Carson Topshop in 1946 for a mild-custom '29 Phaeton. Around the mid 50's the padding was removed and the original Carson bows were recovered, probably also by Houser's, with the Black Hartz-Cloth and the side curtains were made. A few years later the car was returned to stock and sold. This top was stored in the top of a Barn ever since.

So, I now own a genuine 1940s Carson top that was turned into a genuine 1950s Carson top, for a mild custom '29 Tub.

Is there any trick to getting some more leg room in a Phaeton? I wonder if it is possible to cut, reshape, and extend the seat back 6 inches or so. We have done everything else to these poor cars, maybe it's an option for us long legged hot rodders.

  11. are you going to run fenders now ? I think it would look great ...@rainierhooker

I am kinda thinking fenders now @rob-redm but if I do them, they won't be completely stock.

I was an A guy for 15 years then jumped up to '33 - '34s, for 25... now back to As...
Way back when the late '30 - '31 deluxe 2 door touring was the most sought after...
Number 2 was the '28 -'29 touring... the parts were gold...
    Ah... the memories.

I saw these top pics on instagram. Looks great! I love the side curtains.

  16. Very cool! Can you open the doors with the side curtains on? I'm curious how they attach at the top.

Since I'm also a tub owner I'm a bit curious if there has been any progress made on this car @RainierHooker ?
