I think this car was at Dover Dragstrip when this picture was taken, Dino can you confirm or deny this?

Ardun, was Saugus the strip that had a two lane road crossing the strip at the end of the run with a hill on the other side of the road.. There was one SoCal strip were we first tested the Millwinders coupe when 96 was first built. I saw one roadster who couldn't stop who went across that road, up the hill, and flew like a bird. Lucky the guy wasn't hurt. Nes... Millwinders

 

Pat I believe you are right because I remember the car but for the life of me I forget who owned it. I saw it many times at Dover and I am thinking the person who owned it might have been from Stamford, Ct.

 

Sitting in a trailer for a couple of decades. Saw the light of day today. A Joe Teuton facebook post.

 

If you went to the first Hot Rod Reunion, you might have seen this one parked in the "gasser" area. CW and Scott Holton brought it up and fired it frequently. At that time, James and Fischer was lettered on both sides. It might even be in the tail end segment of NHRA Today where Steve Evans signs off while cruising thru the pits in a 33-4 roadster.

 

The track you refer to sounds like Pomona, as there was a road at the end and a golf course on the other side of the road, and lots of cars over the years went up the hill ...Saugus did have a road at the end of the strip, but not sure if there was a hill on the end....here is a picture of the track from the air:


The starting line was where the hills at the right are, and the finish line is at left, road runs across the end...(love your stories about the Millwinders!)

Saugus, looks like the Bernardini Brothers roadster far left...this is all housing now, no trace of the airport that was used as a drag strip


from the Screwdriver's file...dragster could be early Chrisman #25. Sedan on right is Ewell-Goldworthy, driven by veteran Jack Ewell. Jack would go on to fuel dragsters, winning the '60 Smoker's meet, and then to the Fuller "Chubasco" fueler. This is probably Santa Ana, maybe '50 or '51
