Projects SOUTHEAST GASSERS "BRAND X" BUILD

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by HEMIBERT, Oct 12, 2015.

  1. We've been going to the Southeast Gasser races this year, taking pictures, asking questions and studying the cars. We have now decided on a build for the SEG H1.JPG H2.JPG H3.JPG . Got some encouragement from Quain to build something a little different, so we have a 65 Barracuda (the BRAND X part) to build. Using a big block Mopar engine, transmission and rear, we plan on being ready for next years opener at Greer. I'll try to post often and in real time, as much as possible, with pics. Any useful tips will be appreciated.
Been collecting parts all season and now have enough to get started. Found the body in a junk yard near Shelby, NC.

  2. Be interesting if someone recognized the car from the name on the deck lid and knew H4.JPG something about it.

    WOW GIVE EM HELL

  4. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

  5. Sweet choice for a gasser. If your build goes as planned, maybe a trip to the Meltdown drags will be in order.

Uncle Lijah is mentioned in a Black Oak Arkansas song. They're a southern rock band from the 70's, look em up if you're interested. Keep the builds coming!

    So Cool !
Great to see a Chrysler built for 'real' Gasser racing.
With Quain and group in with support, I'm sure it will turn out awesome.
    I'll be watching your journey.
What CID engine are you planning?

Watching this one for sure. Neat car.

  12. Yes, I got a back glass with the car. It is safely tucked away in the house. I'll be watching for a spare just in case.

  15. Going to spend this week on dis-assembly and cutting. Then we'll see what we have to work with.
Have to be done by spring.

65 Cuda, one of my absolute favorites! And as a Gasser, should be awesome! Best of luck and keep us posted...

  18. the scootin cuda and the kingfish were some of my favorite cudas. will the car be mopar powered? what trans is going in it?

  19. I know where a spare back glass is....PM me for info!

  20. Not sure on cid yet. See what it weighs first. Besides, don't want to learn how to drive a 4-speed again on the good engine!

  21. Mopar? of course. Big block of some size with an 833 4-speed.

  22. When I saw the 4 speed hump, I crossed my fingers for a shifter poking thru it! Love the bubble backs.

  23. Some of this weeks progress. Some parts removed with care for trade purposes, the rest go to the scrap yard. More pictures tomorrow night. Hope to start fitting the frame rails next week, then the roll cage. WK1 4.JPG WK1 7.JPG WK1 8.JPG

    very cool..I'm currently building a '66

  28. Not much left is there? After a good cleaning and smoothing of the rough edges, we'll start laying in the frame rails.
Got luckey by having the stock frame locations match up perfectly with the spring mounts on the front axle. Just makes mounting of the body easier at the rear. Front axle should be next. Have to know where it goes to know where engine and transmission go to know where the shifter goes to know where the main hoop goes! WK1 10.JPG WK1 11.JPG WK1 12.JPG WK1 13.JPG
