I picked up a T-10 at a yard sale. Guy didn't know anything about it. It was in the garage when he bought his place. So now I'm looking for help to ID this thing. This is what I found on it. Case has T10D-1 cast on it. The flange has WL2923 stamped on it. Tail stock has WG.Div. R1 cast, T10-7D, and 11/27/68. Input shaft has one ring. If anyone knows what all this means It be a great help. Did some on line research. But came out more confused then when I started. Appreciate any help.
It could be out of a GM, AMC, or Ford (Mopar didn't use the T-10 much if at all), but by '68 it probably isn't a Ford application as Ford had pretty much switched to nothing but their own toploaders by then. Pics are really what's needed....
Last Chevy production issue T10 was 1963, Pontiac used them thru 64 IIRC. The Super T10 was issued as a replacement for the Muncie M22 about 73-74 until the early eighties. When I was in high school around 1971, I bought a T10 (GM case) for my 57 BelAir, from a local trans shop that had built it for a drag racer but never picked it up. What was special about this trans was it had been fitted with a Ford input shaft that was made of a high nickel content, dont recall the tooth count, but it required that I use a Ford clutch disc. This was my first real experience with parts swapping between brands.
This is it. I think you can see all the casting numbers here. I know it's a chevy because of the bell housing. And it is a aluminum housing which i understand to be a Super T10. But is there any way of knowing what year it is and what the gear ratios are?
When I was IDing mine, I found some really good stuff on codes on a transmission parts vendors site, but I cant find it now...
Show us the other side. The bell housing has nothing to do with trans type, pretty much any GM bell housing will bolt to any GM trans of that era.
That's what I was thinking also. Thought maybe 68/69 AMC tailhousing, but not same as GM casting in photo.
More than likely for a 1963 build. No cast Chevy emblem on the t-housing. Could be Buick, Pont, Olds, or? Date code indicates Dec, '62
I think it's a T10, And single groove is wide ratio, and your case is not matched to the tail shaft as far as part numbers go. Seems like its a 63 corvette based on the T10D1. There were no 1968 T10s.
Could be a service replacement, not necessarily a OEM install... I will agree that it isn't a ST-10, but the older 'standard' T-10.
Here's the other side. I looked really close and it's a 68. But it could be a tail stock from a later unit. Again just trying to get as much info as I can. Thanks for the help.
Here it is without the shifter & linkage. After looking at it this way it seems that it is a late 62. I also noticed another number stamped on to the flange next to the date code. A142164. If that helps. So i think i have the year or at least close enough to get parts for it if necessary. Badshifter you say its a wide ratio because of the single grove. Where can I find what the ratios are? So I can match a rear end to it. Again Thanks guys.
I believe there is a difference between the input shafts on the Stude versus Chevy T-10's. I sold a 1963 Stude T-10 to a guy years ago that needed one for his 61 Corvette and he had to change the input shaft.
