Has anyone ever driven their cars up to Pikes Peak Summit? Good or bad idea?

HRP I have read thru that a couple of times and that's what got me thinking. We are driving out to Goodguys in Loveland Co. in September from Mpls via Blackhills. Thought this could be another check mark on the old bucket list

 

What should I expect? Any do's or dont's

 

Don't drive off the edge!

 

I'm new to the forum but I've been to pikes peak many times and even raced the hill climb once.
Best bet for a good experience is to arrive early and take your time. Weather moves in and after 1pm your chances of rain and snow goes up quite a bit.
Be mindful of the brakes on your vehicle, use your gearing to descend as much as possible.
Pull over as much as possible, the views are incredible and spots like Devils Playground, bottomless pit and the summit are absolutely not worth cruising past without stopping.
Get a fresh donut at the summit...
Also, stop in Manitou springs and visit the pikes peak hill climb museum.

 

Oh, when you get above tree line, if you hear a humming and you are standing near metal, usually railings, go inside... Lightning is going to strike and it might even be mostly clear looking up there.
