History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

  1. I saw Smyser take the Toronado over the Armco at Irwindale. He lost it just past the tree, and that big car just lumbered right over the rail like an elephant. Fortunately, something hung up on the rail, and the car stopped before going through the chain link spectator fence. That could have got ugly. The car basically ran the same driveline set up as the Hurst Hairy Olds. Schubeck must have known something about making it go straight that Smyser didn't.

    Is this track in Piqua Oh? or Ky?. Looks like a track we ran at only a couple of times on a Sunday after driving there from KilKare.

    None of the spectators seemed concerned in the slightest as that thing climbed the guard rail. Every body must have been tougher back then...
