I love the utilitarian look of the wide five Ford wheels, I am starting a picture thread of them. Please post any pictures of wide five's and we will see where this go's. These are pictures of a wide five Dick Spadaro adapter and then same adapter with my Highway 101 adapter cover over it. Jim Ford

I just scored 4 wide 5s with mounted WWW. checked them out and they were 15". someone had welded the wide 5 centers to 15" outers. they had been run for a while, I hope they ran true.

I love them too. Here is a '32 Roadster I built in 2006 in it's early mock-up stages.

    Flathead,
These pics will show my method of doing them. I use an aluminum plate that is for balancing wide 5's to hold the centers in the lathe while turning the OD of the center. There are two different outer hoops available, one with a 12.625" center opening, and one with 13. 312". I like the ones with the larger center opening, as it leaves more of the scallop in the center of the wheel. After machining the centers to size, I press them in to the desired back space, getting them close to alignment. I have a stand, mounted on my welding table with a spindle and hub, that I use to spin and finalize the run out before tig welding them on the front side. BTW the desired outer hoops are are hard to obtain, as they are used by the makers of OEM style wheels. IMG_0919.JPG IMG_0920.JPG IMG_0923.JPG IMG_0926.JPG IMG_0927.JPG

I widened a 4" to 5 1/2 by adding 1 1/2" to the backspacing... using a piece cut from another wheel

Bob, My lathe weighs 5300 lbs, not much flex. But then, I am not a machinist, just a guy with machines.
