Hey I've got a feeling that my option of a budget bench seat from a minivan is going to be a wee short. Hey can you guys tell me the width your bench seat lengthwise. I sat in a buddy late ninetys chrysler the 2nd row bench seat is 41 in in length. I sat in it and it seems that the passenger would be a bit close. like no space in between. I want some distance between us. His rear van seat is a bit longer. Its 45 inches . I beleive it will fit in my chevy in the front but the sides the seats will be kissing the inside sheet metal of the doors. Short i got for a big seat. What is the size of you bench seats??
47" I think. I'm using a split bench from a 71' Chevelle. I believe my factory seat was the same width. 49 Ford.
Hey how about the distance from the side of the seat and the door panel or outside panel if your not using a door panel. Im trying figure out what the appropriote distance in between the two are Hey thanks for respond too
I'm using a mid seat out of a caravan in my A coupe. It measures 41". Yes, it puts the passenger close. And yes, when the doors are closed they do touch the edge of the seat.
Dan should i choose a longer seat so that when the doors are closed they do touch the edge of the seat? With your back against the seat how far from your chest is the edge of the steering wheel? How about from the A pillar to the first part of the benchseat? All new too this
Mink, Seems to me , no matter the seat width, the only thing that dictates passenger closesness is the distance between the doors. Most seats will squish a bit with out a problem. Measure the distance between doors and find a seat close to that. .........Jack
My seat is non adjustable, bolted directly to the floor. I just sat it where I had the most leg room. I really don't think your gonna get a wider seat in your car if your building a Model A.
My model A coupe has a third seat out of a 67 belvadere(if thats how you spell it) wagon its right around the same width but I used it because the lack of padding was needed for extra head room
It's sitting in my buddies shop on the floor, hell I don't even have floors yet! lol! Sorry bro, wish I could help ya more!
There is a minivan seat that is around 38" wide. It's from the middle row from a late 80's or early 90's.
Thanks guys, the i test fit is of a length of 41" sits hight too butt that can be fixed. I'll try to snap some pictures. The distance from drive door skin to passenger door skin is 47 at its minimum(happens to be right at the rear pillar where the latch catch is on). The 3rd row seat that is in the same van as the 31 inch, has a length of 17" . Im think about getting this but not sure if i should because its so close. I think a rough estimate of the space between the corner of the benchseat and the corner of the front pillar would best clarify my problems. Anyways what modifications are done in order to bolt thers van seats in. Do i have to weld on some boltable brackets. They were bolted into the van they were latched in.
Heres a picture of the side space of ther 41" Forgot to measure that i do have a free chevy van seat that i have been disassembling I think i might try shortening it to 46" or 47" not sure.

I got tired of looking for a bench seat that would fit my '38 Dodge so I went and got a 1/2 ton Ford PU seat and narrowed it. Here is a link to my post on it: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323438&highlight=38+dodge
I mounted the 3rd row out of a 86 Chrysler mini van. The seat is mounted just behind the door jamb on my 29 ford tudor sedan. It works for me. I have found that the older square style mini-van seats are better. Good luck.
