    Hello,

I owned a completely stock appearing 1940 Ford Deluxe Sedan Delivery with a Flathead and LaSalle transmission in my first car. Then, 6 years later, a 327 powered 1940 Ford Deluxe Sedan Delivery, there were differences from both.

But a friend had a 1939 deluxe sedan and his grille had the single wider spaced, grille with vertical bars. We liked the extra addition of the side grilles to the 1940 set up. The narrower horizontal bars of the 40 deluxe vs the tall vertical bars makes it seem more streamlined.

There are people that like the vertical bar look on he 39 grille, but the deluxe horizontal bars make it look more in line with a fast smooth flowing stream going back to the rear of the car. Everyone has their own choices. We looked at several 39 deluxe grilles versus the standard grille of the 40 Ford. There is a difference despite the similarities.

Recently prior to the pandemic locked in place, my wife had her eye on a 1939 deluxe convertible. But, now we are not as particular, since the convertible was one hot rod that my wife admires and would buy one, if one was for sale. It just looked cool. YRMV
