took the carb off to do some work and noticed this dark redish residue inside the intake manifold.this is a new engine with about 1500 miles and a holley carb.I use a small amount of Sta-bil in my gas and 91 octane. any idea what this might be?
Looks like you are about a 1/16" from a vacuum leak. Make sure your new gasket seals up that spot correctly.
Maybe a bit of exhaust gas reversion? Maybe a "funny" camshaft with a lot of overlap or a lot of intake duration?
Doesn't look weird to me. Looks like when gasoline is poured onto a hot surface. Like when a carburetor leaks onto an intake manifold.
normal varnish from the heat riser crossover . if your using non tax gas ( race gas ) you will get a red stain from the dye they use . has no effect on the flow or running of the motor .
In your top pic, see the dark line down the lower left side of the gasket? There must be a passage in the base of the carb. It almost reaches the edge of your gasket. Make sure your new gasket covers the passage and seals it.
Thanks for all the input.does anyone think that maybe it could be oil vapor sucked in through the pcv nose? I am thinking it may be dried gas too . I found a weird powdery residue inside the fuel bowls. I use two good quality filters. I changed them out then took the used ones apart and found nothing unusual inside. maybe it's just today's gas.
If its sticky it could be oil getting sucked by an intake gasket....good luck Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
if your PCV is on the carb base yes it could be the mess as it will stain aluminum . as for the powder in the carb bowls , yep gas residue its whitish yellow , ussually the detergents and some film from alky drying out .
