51 lead sled- Thanks for the comments. The soonest I can email you some pics will be Thursday. That way I can email a lot of the chopping process before, during, and after.

As far as determining the 1" decrown, I knew I took 8" out of the C pillars when I first chopped it. then, since the roof was too narrow to meet the beltline, I made a square tubing structure that went from one side of the car to the other which the roof set on before pulling out the C pillars, after the pie cuts on both sides. After setting the roof on the box tubing and tacking temporarily, I measured up from the box tubing to the skin of the roof. After I made the pie cuts, and pulled out the C pillars, the roof in between just naturally fell about 1". I had a lot of hammer and dolly work to do to get the roof back into shape at the start of the pie cut above the B pillar. It wanted to make an ant hill, but it ended up coming out really nice before filler.

I will email you those pics, and THANK you for offering to post them for me...

I might do it tonight if I don't get home too late from work. I work until 12:30 am.

Cool57, i called it a "carson style" top because its not really a carson top...it is a 2 door hardtop(victoria) with the padded canvas top applied to it...there are no frame re-inforcements necessary because the victoria & convertible shared the same heavy duty chassis....i'll post some pics of how the top looked before the top was covered...bob

So it does lift off? It's verrrry nice!

Damn It didn't work. I'll try again. I have a ton of pics, and I hate to send em all to 51leadsled and make him post them. Also, I need to learn how to do this anyway.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE show me how to post pics. The smallest baby steps would be appreciated. THANKS in advance. [IMG] [IMG]

Wow, Shiny, something about yer buddy's blue shoebox drives me fucking nuts! I love it. I dig the 53 Sombreros, Merc guards, Olds headlights, and I like the neat exhaust ports. Color is bitchin, too. You sure can't beat a shoebox Ford dash painted RED.

Great pics guys, keep em coming. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I like the scoops on Bump's 49. Kinda late 50s mild kustom style.

Nice job, glassguy and thanks for the pics. Are you going to panel it in around the rear window? I was always blown away by your Merc, even on top of the fact that it was a four door to start. Your Merc has a better chop than most coupes. You are the MAN. [IMG]

Here is my 1950 Sedan (50 Flord). It is chopped 5" at the A piller and 4" at the B piller. Back window was moved forward to keep the roof flowin'.
