i am installing a fresh 455 (destroked to 437cu in) with approx 650 hp in the Stude and would like to install period correct wheelie bars . the car already pulls the wheels with a 400hp 455 (old ski boat engine) so i need to stop the old girl from going too high. lets start a thread with photos of vintage 60's-70's wheelie bars then i can figure what to put on....anyone have any for sale?
I'm probably a little late I just ran up on this thread. I'm glad your trying to put period correct wheelie bars on your car. There is nothing that kills the looks of an old school Gasser worse than a set wheelie bars that look like they came from the late 70s or early 80s. I've seen some with long bars like a pro mod car that's really bad. Here a pic of the bars from Gene Cromers A/G car that were made in 1968.
Here's another style that I made for my car this type is not as forgiving when it hits hard, makes the car drive bad but having to drive hard is the fun of trying to relive history. Here's a link to the build thread you can check out how they were made.
This is a very cool thread...thanks for turning me on to this Baron! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
On an Ohio gasser called "The Tazmanian".A HAMBer had this car for sale last year.I should have bought it,but I didn't act fast enough... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That man has never done a half assed job on anything, ever, has he? I really enjoy following any build thread that Quain is involved in,as his fabrication skills are very sharp, but he keeps things very simple and clean, too.Nice stuff. Scott Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I'm hoping Kiwi Kev has something to offer on this one too...His fab jobs always make for gooooood watchin'! And his stuff always has a very straight forward, old school look to it too. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
What's really wild is I went to look at some Olds/Pontiac rears from a craigslist ad and found Loper's original wheelie bar in a guys backyard the same week, maybe even the next day after I put up the pic in post #3. Just sitting in a bin with a bunch of other scrap metal.
Take a look at Langy's ( My Willys Coupe build) on the H.A.M.B. He built some nice wheelie bars.http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=572303&highlight=41+willys+build&page=12 I'm making a set of wheelie bars with Speedways Quarter Elliptical springs. Toxic Waste
