Now THAT's funny, I don't care who you are. Thanks, Roy. That might show up in my book if I ever get around to finishing it.

That's Sterling Moss talking Briggs Cunningham I beleve. The F-3 cars ran regularly in SCCA meets in the late fifties here in the east at Lime Rock and other places, possibly at Montgomery, NY airport too. I have old 8mm footage of a gang of them running at Lime Rock back then.

Moss, Jim Russel, Peter Collins are among those that got their start in formula 3/500s.

  9. Anybody know of a way to get ahold of Tommy Sanders, or Floyd Bailey? Kenny Jenkins maybe?

    It's for a friend.

    Thank you

One of my favorite stories involved Frank Riddle. Rex Robbins asked me to handle the yellow, red, and black flags on the backstretch at the Little 500 one year. I guess it was about 100 laps into it when Rex called "YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW" on the radio. I jumped out onto the track with my yellow flag, and here comes Riddle out of Turn 2 with nothing but flames from the engine compartment back. I stepped out of the way, then threw the yellow.

Rex wanted to know why I didn't yellow flag that first car.

I said, "I figured he knew about it."

Another Little 500 quick story: One year my dad Luke was getting strapped in before the start with the car in line on the front stretch. He was getting sick (as usual) before the start when he noticed somebody standing next to him he didn't recognize. After looking at the guy for a couple seconds he realized it was Jimmy Clark up from Indy. Jimmy asked how Dad was doing. Dad said: "I'm nervous as Hell - probably going to get sick - but, I guess I don't have the right. Here you are, the night before Indy. I'll bet you're really nervous." Jimmy said: "No, I'm fine. At Indy you just lay back and cruise for a few hours. But, with these sprint cars, you have every right to be nervous. In fact, you're crazier then Hell for even getting in one of these!" Dad said it made him feel a lot better after Jimmy said that.

Yep. I agree. Love all sprint cars but would like to see more "cageless" and round noses. :)

From one old fart to another ... That made me laugh ALMOST as hard as IndyBigJohn's story about his flagging on the back stretch at the Little 500. :D
