Thanks, guys. I'm a shotgunner, not a rifle shooter (that's my wife and why I keep my belt through every loop. LOL), so I don't know the diff between the 16 and the AR-15 on sight. Closest I've come was an SKS, and it was amazingly straight. I don't wanna get off the topic too far, but please remind to tell you my M-16 story in some HAMB context where it fits.

No probs there, but HERE was a societal problem that helped change attitudes:

Idiot still laughs at system on way to slammer.

Not your boy next door. August '69, this druggie miscreant human monster sent his fellow druggies to go slaughter numerous innocent people, mistakenly including a rented house occupied by actress Sharon Tate who was near ready to deliver her husband's baby. No more pix are needed to remember how shocked (normally an overused term) we all were to hear of the ghastly knife and gun work. Suffice it to say that all the druggies got life in prison. Taken by surprise, the victims all died horribly, most begging for mercy. Oh, and the victims had no more life. Not a political statement here. I imagine I'm not the only one who saw the world differently after that.

Spectacular time exposure from the Ahwahnee Valley at Yosemite
of the towering nighttime "firefall" from Glacier Point. Started in
1872, the ritual treat became a tradition, last enacted Jan. 25,
1968. Public domain but THANKS to the WikiMedia Commons project!

Thanks for this public-domain book plate go to the WikiMedia
Commons project and to Mr. Jim Heaphy who scanned it from
a 1921 book, Yosemite and Its High Sierra.

A different view, this one a DOUBLE-exposure, using timing
to capture the famous firefall against a lighted California sky.
Mr. Richard Marklin can go down in history for so artfully cap-
turing one of the last Yosemite firefall displays! Marklin used
a fixed tri-pod (of course) to record the 35-mm Kodachrome
image. This is THANKS to LenseUs and Wikipedia! All three
of these images, PLUS, tremendous historical details) can be
    read and viewed at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefall.
