There must have been some talented wood craftsman who worked on these early designs. I had the pleasure of seeing and holding an original historical part of a 57 Chevy dash that was extremely detailed and hand made by GM craftsman in cherry wood and used as the model they presented at design meetings.

Lot of attention to the Taylor Aerocar lately! I was fortunate enough to meet the designer, Molt Taylor in Oshkosh , 1993. I must have been about 12 years old. He was wheelchair bound and struggled to talk from what I think was probably the aftermath of a stroke. I asked for his autograph and he was barely able to make an "X" on my hat. At the time I appreciated it, but seeing all the Aerocars posted here lately reminded me of that event and got me to thinking of how much effort it must have taken for him to sign my hat and talk about his creation with an annoying kid! I appreciate that time, and my hat so much more now!
Check this link out for some more info on one of the surviving Aerocars (and tons of other cool airplanes). https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa-museum/m...ollection-folder/1949-taylor-aerocar---n4994p

  9. Doubtful that the Jag has disc brakes. It looks like about a 1956, so....probably not. None of the jags of that year that I know of locally have discs.

I always thought the stock treatment looked better than the (Pines?) dressup.

I have done some digging.. The Jags first had discs for the 57 XK150. That looks like the earlier XK120 model, which stopped production in 1954. So I'm thinking that one didn't. I also found the Crosleys had the discs, yes, but they were discontinued after 6 months due to reliability issues.

The photo looks like it may have been taken in the early 60s. there's a ford at the end of the slope that has the round lights and small fins like the 61 model.

On the other response, yeah, turning towards the curb is nothing to do with disc brakes, just dodgy parking brakes. That said, having parking brakes on a disc brake was notoriously problematical in the early years.

Good stuff, it was just an off hand comment from me, glad it sparked some debate.

Roseburg, OR - 1959. Started with a building fire. Truck just happened to be on the next street and filled with dynamite. Damaged 8 city blocks, created a 52 foot crater, 12 feet deep.

This in Phoenix at Grand Ave & McDowell. Six Points Hardware is still at that location and has been since 1946.
It's called Six Points because six different streets are in the intersection.

I also did some digging and found another copy of the same picture marked "Becker Jury going to lunch" The Becker trial was a high profile trial held in New York (There were more than one - You'd have to google it).

So I'd say it's a US built KRIT, Photographed in New York during one of the trials.built long before the swastika was associated with the Nazi party.

I found a pic with the top not cropped off
    [IMG]
The wikipedia caption states "The jury in the 1912 Rosenthal murder case leaving for lunch in a car adorned with the symbol."

The Wiki article was about the use of the swastika.

Edit: I googled "anziskaner" and Franziskaner came up, a German beer. So it may be that the premises on the corner was a bar selling the German beer.
