Agreed - my aunt had this model - it was solid white. Was this a '58 or '59?

This is "Rocinante" - the GMC truck and camper combo that took John Steinbeck and a French poodle named "Charley" on his epic 1960 road trip across America which culminated in the book "Travels With Charley".

A few shots from 1959 in Ipswich, Australia. Aside from the traffic, very little has changed!

  8. I dunno about the cars, but Ma and Pa are sure vintage, especially Pa. Like the western shirt hiding under his jacket, too.

  9. It is a strange two-tone color scheme. Note the steel wheels are white like the hood. It almost looks like someone had Earl Shieb add a little color in an abnormal scheme.

    It's a '59 Ford.

This photo reminds me of a boneyard I saw in the early 80's, it was right on the highway going into Yakima Washington.
Anyone know if it is stll there?

Didn't stop, don't know the name, may have been private at the time.
No way there could be two of this magnitude.
I wanna say near Toppenish, hiway 97.
If it's the same place; there's 30 more years worth of rust on them.

Yea, I think I spotted it by Google map, it's 97 and Jensen rd.
All I can say is, it's gonna bring a lot of HAMBERS to their knees when they see the aerial photo of this place.

Some completely useless info regarding the plates on this old chevy.

South Dakota Plates. The 2 on the plate means these folks are from the 2nd largest by population city/area in South Dakota. 1 on a license plate on the other hand indicated you were from the largest populated county/city area would be Minnehaha County which comprises most of the Sioux Falls area. 2 on the other hand like on this plate I believe would be Rapid City which is near Mount Rushmore and an area of the state referred to as "west river" meaning west of the great missouri river some 450 west of Sioux Falls. The photo was most likely taken near the badlands just east of Rapid City or possibly near Mount Rushmore per the rock formations. The other car has So Dak plates as well. Now on to the trunk. Does the sign say This ride is not worth one plum nickel or road not worth one plum nickel ? If I didn't think better, the trunk looks like it is filled with crushed beer cans ! lol - So what do you guys think, Thirsty guy or just another early recycler ?

Thanks for these! I'm a ippy boy born and raised. While not old enough to remember these scenes I recognise a few of the buildings!

Mini, are you trying to see if we are paying attention? The ROG pic is just a few years old.
