Funny. I never looked at the placement of the sign and school that way.
For the record, that is DeLaSalle High School in Mpls. in the background.

  3. Shoot, I can remember a sign at the city limits of El Segundo, CA stated "No Negros Allowed" into the city!! This was in the late 60's.

^^^ I guess that's why Fred Sanford was always talking smack about El Segundo on the 'Sanford And Son' tv show.

I would know that machine anywhere, it's an IBM 026 Keypunch..
Learned how to operate those in Data Processing A school in 1973 in San Diego RTC.

  8. Dad bought a brand new Ford in October 1960, just like that one in the pic only black. I still remember, he paid just over $1700 for it. My parents' first new car since 1937. He always got new pickups while mom had to settle for second-hand junkers till he got that '60 Ford for her.

My first car in '65 or so was also a cheapie 1960 Ford 2dr sedan, pukey medium blue, 6 cylinder stick, radio delete. I paid $50 for it & drove it 2 years - rustbucket deluxe but had a nice roomy interior.... These are the only pics I have of mine, from about '66:

In the mid 70's, not too far from Raleigh, NC there was a full size billboard that said-

"This is Klan country--love it or leave it"

We cannot go back in time and change it. The only thing we can do is learn, and teach future generations how to respect all peoples. England and America both had a sordid past. However, don't think England started that, the Dutch and the African tribes themselves plus the Arabs had as much of a hand in slavery as anyone. As far as Native American people, I cannot ask forgiveness for what others did years ago. I can only learn about and respect the culture.
