If I'm not mistaken, the car on the left is a stock Ruxton -- more a factory custom than a hot rod. One of the first FWD cars built, the company was only in business for about one year.

This is Barely traditional, coil springs rear, radials, high back bucket, stake bed , HEI ignition and modern exhaust. Not my thing, but it might be a good DD, and fun.

Sorry if this is disrespect, and I know you didn't ask for my opinion.

I'm real curious to know what that came out looking like a hotrod or custom...great vintage shot of a very well known place. Thanks Rat

Someone on here knows what this became and has pics to prove it...I'd love to see it...perhaps the back has been trimmed and the cowl area was to follow...

    Maybe... this one o_O

Did you know this is Dan Gurney and friends, going to Bonneville?
Taking by his mother in 1950, it's the lad with the hat.
It says so in my first and so fare only Rod & custom (nov. 2000) featuring a nostalgia rod on the front page.

I think that the white '33-'34 was built by Juaquin Arnette (sp?) of Bean Bandits fame and once owned by Andy Granitelli.

Thanks Hobo. The Hamb team are all a part of this thread. I am quite passionate about the vast history of the automobile, how it relates and influences what has been done to period street/competition hotrods and customized cars and what we do now in the modern age of Period and period inspired Hotrod building. Sharing things with this like minded crowd makes my day. I enjoy channeling what feels right here. This is a great thread started by Koolkat which some still misunderstand what its really saying.
You have put a lot of love into your ride. It is a fine example of a slightly less popular pickup choice for the era and pulled it off nicely and deserves the spotlight no lesser than the others. Thanks for sharing.

  18. I saw the 34 that's in front of Valley Custom about 20 years ago. It's in the Portland Oregon area. It still looked just like this picture at that time. Neil Emory and his partner started Valley Custom, his Grandson Rod Emory has, or had the car. I heard he was working on it. Here's a link to his business. http://www.emorymotorsports.com/

Thats totally cool...Thanks Fat Ass (luv the name can't help but chuckle a little :D) seriously if it has barely changed it would almost be a time capsule. No surprise if it was one of their first cars it would be sorta like the first dollar earned for the wall at a business. Thanks for the link too. What might that be as a final finished creation sounds like we shall see.

  20. I was told the car was a project car that went from shop to shop to have work done. I think for magazine coverage. The Dream truck was done the same way.

Thanks Volvo...always better with the story. I just love the driven rides that are rough around the edges. I know who got to do the dirtywork thats for sure. Good times...

Hey Fat I think your Hotrod would compliment the thread. Please do share...Is that a veteran hotrod or an inspired hotrod?

  23. Thanks Stogy. Here's some pictures of mine. I built this over 25 years ago. Pinto powered, 4spd, Volvo rearend, Polyform body, Speedway nose and grille. I built it, wired it, painted it, upholstered it, (the seatcovers I had sewn to my specs, I didn't have time to do them myself) It's a blast to drive.

Thanks Fat you have a nice ride...it shares a vintage profile...a little new in other areas and I'm sure you know that. Graphics compliment and remind me of stuff on very old Indy racers. Keep on enjoying. Hey I might drop Rod an email about that car. Being a custom shop who knows what may have happened to that. Wonder if his grandpa had a visual drawing or sketch. 20 years is a long time ago. It sure looked cool in the pic.

Another thing no need to make excuses for using outside help for doing stuff. We do what we can do. Most of us are not gifted with the I can do everything gene. I for one have no problem utilizing experts in varied fields. Still plenty for me to enjoy.

Denis4x4 is correct that the white '34 was built by Joaquin Arnett, but the Valley Custom coupe is not the same car. Note that the Valley car has the quarters sectioned, eliminating the reveal that normally runs from the door to the tail. Joaquin's coupe was also sectioned, but the reveal was left intact.

50 I think Denis knew it was't it...he was letting me know the one I posted was built by someone else not Valley. Fat on the other hand provided an interesting angle on it...

  27. Love this car,

In 1974 when I was a lad my first ever trip outside of the UK was to the Street Rod Nationals in St Paul.
We hooked up with a guy in New York named Tom Tulley and others from The Long Island crew, and then on route we met up with the man and his car , Sabie Rubbo, who was a good friend of Toms.
We spent the Nationals with Sabie and then traveled back were we had a party on the last night in a motel, where we were to be picked up and then go to Battle Creek to meet another Legend : John Moffett.
That was Johns "C" Cab in 74, with me the young lad in it.
