Projects This 62 Poncho was calling my name !!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rob-redm, May 11, 2012.

  1. Had been sitting since 1990 20 + years, in the garage.. when the owners wife passed away. He parked it, the speedo shows 80,000 miles, which may be correct. Will need some work from sitting so long, plans are for making it a killer push rig for the vintage drags :D

  13. bought it !

  14. Hey Marshall, myself and a buddy from work drove up Friday night.
checked it out and bought it. It's going to need some tlc from sitting .
We put battery in it, and the starter needed a little help, but the engine bumped over and it's free. The gas tank was full, and going to have to drain it and get it clean. The brake pedal is on the floor, master cylinder and new wheel cylinders and hoses for sure. Couldn't get the headlights to come on but the tailights did, fuse ? I 'm sure alot of simple stuff to fix. Here are a few interior pictures

  15. floor are rock solid, cargo area is solid, it's a good one.. interior needs some cleaning, no tears in the headliner... 14" wheels will have to go..
thinking some TTO or ??? HMM time for a poll question...

    I love it!

It needs Supremes and pinned whites.

  17. What a cherry ride, blown away how clean and straight exterior and
interior, minor repairs as stated will have you up and running in no time.
    Great score.

  19. Hey Tom !!! I want to use it for tow and push car duties ( Marshall's car wink wink !) 389 two barrell I bet, I didn't pull the air cleaner off to see if there was a four barrell on the intake.. There is one small rust hole I found on the driver side rear quarter behind the wheel opening about. I'll get that fixed after I get it back on the road and driving, Have any vintage wheels for it ??? LOL , are you going to Monroe ?...

  20. Don't have any spares but the 8 lug wheels would look good. Otherwise
its chrome steelies with small caps, or what was popular in '64 were the Cragar SS wheels. Monroe is appearing to be a 75 percent go.

  21. I know I should have kept those nos 14" Cragar SS Sparklers, and the Vintage tri-bar knock offs.. We are on the same page , Chrome steelies, or even come killer Americans TTO ( Magnesium Torque Thrust would be killer !) Looks like I will be looking for some Poncho stuff !

Love it! Ii especially love the tri color interior. That blue is right with white.

  23. Sweet car. Gotta love the old Pontiac wagons!

  24. thanks !! can't wait to get her back on the road and drive ! :D

  25. Thanks !!! Needs some tires to move around, has H78-14 on it ( the front tires were killer Mobil gas station twin pinner white walls(dry rotted). The rears are mismatched snow tires ?? But looks like a buddy has a set of H78-14 off his low mileage 66 Plymouth FuryIII wagon he doesn't need. Save some $$$ there. Will run those for while ... :D

Stock Caps, 3/4" whites and 4" lowering coils gave my 62 Bonnie Hardtop a whole other look.

    That interior is just insane!!!!!!

Enjoy the snot outta that thang!!!!!

That is sweet. 62 is one of my favorite years for Pontiacs and that will make a great cruiser/towrig/push car.

I'm not sure if the 62 had plastic teeth on the cam gear but I'd think about putting a timing gear set in it before driving it very far as those went out at about 80K on a regular basis. That is unless you can find out that it already had it changed. It's an easy job to do on that engine and might save headaches later.
