a few months into my search for the perfect paint color... ive reached another option... my f100 is ford factory Arcadian blue (F) which is kinda odd being that even my manuals dont list this being a color option... nor any websites... but I have seen a few out there... anyway... although Im not the biggest fan of this shade... I have about decided to go with a similar color only in metallic... I know silver blue poly was available and was also used on speacial order basis. What else is out there. pic of the truck here is a couple colors I found that looked 60s ish Honda Havasu blue Ford Windveil blue Not exactly sure what this is... but its kinda what im after..
The woods are full of them including some on new cars. I think VW has one out that is almost like the old baby doll blue we used to love. 1st generation Mustangs had a nice baby blue too. The first 64-1/2 in town was that color. Outside of resale red, if I was putting something together to sell I'd probably paint it that color.
the Arcadian blue color... to powder puffy for me lol... but I guess it was a semi popular color in the 60s.... I've had a few fellas tell me to just paint it back to this... but, eh..cant do it.
Both those new colors appear to have pearl effect and metalflake, and to me that's what makes a new color look new. If you want old OEM looking it's not just tone, gotta eliminate the pearl and scale the flake's intensity for the timeframe. Good luck with the truck
There's some truth to that, but a big factor is that the above colors have a clear coat over them. That alone will make any color from the early-mid 60's look way more dramatic than the OE paint job. I've seen some nice single-stage metallic jobs, but i don't care how skilled you are, it will NEVER look as brilliant as a basecoat/clearcoat job. I did a '66 riviera in the original pewter-silver, and the color would about knock your eyes out for the above mentioned reasons. This is a pic of a '67 Firebird with a meticulously applied ORIGINAL mint green metallic. It's every bit as brilliant as any modern metallic color.
don't know if you're stuck on keeping it a "ford" blue, but here is my chrysler, i think it's a nice blue.
nope not stuck to ford blue... not so hot on going import.. but eh. kinda sounds wierd to say hey my truck is kia blue. nice color on the chrysler... is that glacier blue?
i'm not quiet sure which blue it is, i can't remember. i'll have to grab the paint code and look it up.
Is the Ford Windveil blue or the blue on the above Chevy pickup have metallic in it? I'm also looking for a lighter shade of blue for a 40 pickup project. Building models as a young kid, they all seemed to be painted a light metallic blue. Might as well carry on those thoughts.
more of the .... honda color... why did it have to be a honda. I like it though.. not sure how it will look on a 65. maybe I will just lie and say its from ford.
I like the tones of the Windveil blue but I'm looking for something non-metallic. My 40 coupe was a two tone blue for years but got tired of the maintenance of metallics.
Nice... I think I might be on the right track this time.. I really like Evels color.. I just found it in my paint chip book.. gonna be comparing it to the others. I like that 1st pic of the caddy on the left... sweet.
Mine are drivers and metallic is difficult to do rock chip repairs. My coupe body color was the Cadillac acrylic enamel blue and it faded in a short period of time. Paint job really only lasted for about 5 years then lost its shine.
