I'm signed up for drag week. Towing the Chevy II to Ohio.

We made it through Death Valley OK, to Bakersfield.

  6. That Pontiac Aztek has got to be sticking out like a sore thumb

  7. But the Edsel and that Rambler are the class of the field.

The New York Times called the Aztec "the Edsel of our Day". Anytime someone comes up with a list of the ugliest or worst cars of all time, often you'll see the Aztec and Edsel make the same list. My favorite was from a Pontiac press conference. Pontiac was admitting that the Aztec was unpopular and either discontinuing it or seeking cosmetic improvements. Someone from the gallery suggested adding a horse collar grill. The response from the Pontiac spokesman showed their feelings were a little hurt, but they could not deny the sentiment.

How do you accumulate points? There's a Rambler and Edsel in the top 5 and 3 of the bottom 4 are Porsches....

Start with an old car made in France. Big points. Have a good story about how helpless you are. Rescue a fellow raver who is about to die in death Valley. And also go to all the checkpoints

I can't decide what I am more impressed by- the dingle balls, the Nixon sticker, or the swamp cooker.
What is this event called?? At first I thought it might be the 24 hours of LeMONS and I saw a sticker on the passenger side of the Edsel, but I thought that was a weekend closed course race.
    This looks totally different.
Is it a rally, a race, sprint, road course, endurance survival, going the extra mile where there's less traffic?
Please enlighten this ol boy from flyover country

PS how is your tranny doing?

    We started with 498 points.

The voltage regulator is now acting up. The trip from Santa Cruz to Monterey tomorrow is short, but then we need to get back home.

We figured out the regulator problem. Dirty contact. Made it to the finish line. Yay!

Cool! In such a rally, that is arguably a more auspicious placing than winning outright.

  28. YEEEeeeee HAAAAaaaaaa!!! Load the swamp cooler with Party Ice and fire up the 8-track! :D But no ABBA tapes, please.

  29. Whoa, third place, that's a bronze medal or something, isn't it?
