I spent my Sunday this long weekend visiting some ole rusties I remember since my younger years coming up to grandma's. A few had disappeared, some remained, some near unrecognizable...Enough drama this is again proof that Southern Ontario climate is hard on vintage tin.

Are vehicles that have been in garages for decades still considered sitting and rotting?? Serious question....

    Sitting and rotting slower.
The hood ornament on the yellow Olds might be worth the ticks and chiggers.

I think we all as posters have to determine if the pictures posted are true to the topic at hand. Again it is hard to fake this stuff. The vehicles in the metal roofed period building have been in same position since 1970 or prior to. The door post on the 55 2 dr post is rotted off the floor it was connected to. The building has been burned on the side pictured. There is also tin roofing missing that you can clearly see allowing the elements to eat away at the situation. Czuch is correct sitting and rotting slower I would say. I am sure someone owns these and as with many I have posted have only one destiny...the scrap heap. Most have been picked over pretty well (thankfully). Quite frankly there have been many scrap drives over the years...I am surprised to see any left. I went out of my way to capture these images to share. I find these settings are like time capsules...reflections of poverty, getting by with little, tin wired on the fenders, bald tires, severe body rot. I believe they more than fit the subject at hand. Thus sitting and rotting...

The Olds and Pontiac have sat at a derelict service station along a highway again for as long as I can remember. I have always joked that perhaps the customers couldn't pay the repair bill and well sit they did... They are truly deteriorated. The hood ornament is cool as so many are...very jet oriented as so much auto styling borrowed from the aviation and art of the time. The models were not the sought after but surprisingly the engine in the Olds was intact (single carb nothing exotic). But we have up this way harsh winter conditions and mixed summer climes which take their toll on things. Pretty wild seeing the tree growing against the car pressuring the door ajar. I do if at all possible get permission to just take even photos of these derelicts. I treat them as blasts from the past and am happy to share as you all do with me. I know of who owned some of these and tracked down a few of the relatives of those that did but removal of things was not my intention and it was pleasant seeing and chatting with them.

  20. Maverick Daddy, I'd love to get my hands on that '39 Ford 3/4 ton (with the #39 race car behind it), first year Ford made a 3/4 ton.
