so my good buddy comes by about 25 years ago and tells me about this 50's custom 56 chevy he saw on a backroad sitting by a house. tells me it has a whole different roof on it and we have to go and check it out.

so we get out there and what is it? you guessed it, a 56 4 door hardtop, all stock. what a goofball.

  11. I prefer the 4 door top to the 2 door top, they should have used it on the coupes.

Here's my 60 Impala before I returned it to stock. At the time these photos were taken it had a 350 hp 348, 4 speed and a posi. Sold it last fall and now it's living in New Jersey.

  17. Yes, please do. I'm currently woefully uninformed of the difference.

  18. My club pal Martin's 56 Olds Holiday SEDAN:

EDIT: I know the Oldsmobile marketing guys used the word "sedan" to name the car I posted above, but the reality is that it's a four door hard top. I just thought the name was ironic. That's why I posted it to this thread about hard tops!

To clarify for those that don't know, hard tops don't have a B-pillar division or window frames affixed to the doors. Some have bright trim that moves up and down with the side windows, some don't. They come in the two and four door varieties.

Any two or four door that has a division at the B-pillar and has window frames affixed to the doors is not a hard top – it's a sedan.

I like the use of later Marauder wheels on that pink beauty. I know where a 64 4 dr hardtop in a wrecking yard is. Very savable.

I love 4dr hardtops, here is my driver. Some day I'll start working on the outside.

Nice car. I love the rear visor and glass, similar to my olds too.
    What year and model?

Straykatkustom, even if you haven't "started" on the outside yet, it would be nice to see some more of your driver. The '60 Mercury grill and '59 Bonnieville tail lights are just too cool. -Dave.

wood remover, if the new owner of your '61 Monarch fell off the roof of his garage and landed on the top of that car it would be a hard top to fall on, but the car is still not a HARD TOP. Need to loose the "B" pillar and the fixed frames around the door glass to be a hard top. Still a nice sedan. -Dave.

"Introducing the new mini 4 door hardtop"

Doesn't follow the general rule of thumb for hardtops in mine or many peoples books. Just a sales pitch perhaps?

I've had this '50 ford for almost a year. I drove it every day last summer. It rides real low when I have all my cousins packed into it.
