I got a set of tires today for my aluminum wheels I've had sitting in the corner of the shop. I think hot rods should have a few sets of shoes. So red wheels or shiny wheels? IMG_0761_2.JPG IMG_1205.JPG IMG_1207.JPG

I don't care what wheels are on it, shes a beauty. Steelies seem to be in these days.

Yeah, I like the shiny. I use to like red wheels but they are getting a bit over done.

  11. I'm in the, both look great camp too.
I've always liked the idea, of having several different types of wheel and tire combos, so you can easily change the look, when you feel like a change.

  12. Partial to steelies but they both look good.

  13. I always have a place in my like list for shiny wheels. Lookin' good!

shiny but minus the knock-off caps.

  16. I prefer the steel wheels to the aluminum jobs but not in red. I'd prolly paint them a nice ford dove gray and put the caps back on....love that look and IMHO, the fake Halibrans are more trendy than the red wheels...

Over the years I've had wires, painted, plated, and powder coated. I've had chrome wheels, mag wheels both real and aluminum, and lastly steel wheels painted/powder coated with cap and rings. My choice is steelies with caps and rings. They can be made to look very good with the proper contrast between body and wheel color. The biggest thing for me any more is cleaning. I less than a minute the steel wheel is done and that is important to a guy that used to have knees and now finds he has painful weather vanes with shoes on the end. For maintenance the worst I ever had were wires . Took hours to clean the hubs, each and every spoke and then the rims. Formula for maintenance on painted steel wheels with caps and rings. A nice sponge, soapy water, a good flush and a quick wipe with a chamois, done, done, and done! My knees almost feel normal and I can sit back and admire a the "hard" work while enjoying a cold beverage. Geezerdom at it's best!

I really like the Red wheels so they will stay red. I'm still not use to the shiny wheels though. I had the crazy idea of running reds on one side and shiny on the other but the front wheels have a small different in the offset so I think I will just stick to one set or the other.

  21. Even though I'm kind of burnt on red wheels it's what I'd choose in this situation. I know the Halibrands are cool and all but to me it takes it too close to a streetrod appearance. All that being said I love the car.

I liked the steel wheels, and I like the shiny ones too. Definitely two different looks.
I too despise the steel wheels being red.
Blue like the body would be nice, or if you want the contrast a nice Tacoma cream or Wimbledon white would be nice.

I really like your car, the stance is perfect. I guess I've always been a "steelies" kind of guy. Nothing wrong with red either as far as I'm concerned.
BUT, if you're serious about keeping the aluminum wheels on the car I'd agree with falcongeorge and run it without the cones.
    Well, you asked..... :p

  24. You need the red, the shiny and a set of cream steelies as well.

One day I hope to have a car that nice.

I like the shiny on your car but only so you can sell me the red steelies which will be perfect for my red '40!
