Here comes another one. A race report that is. (You thought it was going to be interesting, didn't you?) Saturday 19th October the crew chief and I loaded up and traveled down to Sydney to participate in Round 6 of the track championships. Okay, due to not being able to race at Casino back in September due to the airstrip being used to refuel critical bushfire aircraft, the crew chief told me to go for one more fang before the Summer racing shutdown. If the crew chief tells me to go racing who am I to argue. There was 5 of us entered for the day. Me, Ezio, Emma , Anthony and James. I was curious to see how Ezio's freshened motor and triple SU combo was going. Ezio used to run high 15s or 16 but it runs a tad better now. I haven't got all videos available due to this (insert expletive) camera shutting down mid race again. This is Emma against Anthony in a shootout run. Until this year Emma hadn't ever driven a manual gearbox car of any sort so still learning. She broke out a little bit, too much redline fever. Here's a strictly self indulgent video of one of the few times I get the bye run because I was the fastest qualifier. I ran 14.037 and Emma ran 14.097 in an earlier qualifier. This last video is me and Anthony in the last of the shootout runs. At this point Anthony had 2 wins and I had only my bye run so we were bunging it on a bit at the start. Anthony took the deserved win with his restrained enthusiasm showing when he came over to shake hands. One thing I like about these young blokes is their good sportsmanship. It doesn't matter if they win or lose, they come over and discuss how things went and shake your hand. The final was run between Anthony and James with both of them redlighting but Anthony did first so the win went to James. Congratulations to them both. See you all next year. I'm pulling mine down over the Summer and putting a new clutch in and the old race motor that I broke the crank in last year. Hooroo.
In case you were wondering, yes I took the crew chief on a holiday this week to the coast. She deserved it, a lot of racing got done this year. Hard to believe I've been retired for nearly 12 months.
Thanks for the videos.... brings a smile to me face. I will be 66 yr old soon. Still working full time. Dammit!
I gotta agree James and Anthony are both gentleman as are most the guys I have met in this class. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk
spanners, You're having too much fun. Wait, you can't have too much fun. Sure enjoyed the videos and your commentary this season.
Thank you all for the compliments. You're right, there's no such thing as too much fun. I just did a rough guesstimate and I've done around 10,500 kilometres or 6,500 miles in my quest to do something I enjoy. Rocks in my head? Probably.
Thank you for your concern Mr Mac. Where I am it's not too bad. We've just got home after looking after the daughter's property at Temora for 2 weeks, that's about a 6 hour drive south-west. Some of the fires are about a 3 hour drive south-east from there but getting closer. On our trip home yesterday they had signs out warning of impending road closures on the Hume highway and this morning we find out that a couple of houses and a large area of bushland was destroyed around there last night. I don't class myself as chicken-shit but with what's going on over here, I'm ready to go and hide under the bed until it's all over. Trouble is that could take a while. When we left Temora the temperature was 47 degrees C or 116.6 F. How the volunteer RFS and fire rescue do what they do in those temperatures makes them heroes in my eyes.
Thanks for the update man 116.6 F is just a little warm for me. I don't know how the fire fighters do it either. Stay safe Man
Wow, those temperatures are to the point where it gets hard to breathe. Seems like you guys are making the fires we had in California last year look like just a small campfire by comparison. Be careful.
