Two questions, just like above, ordering a spring from Speedway, the 29" reverse and 1" de-arched spring. Now need to add a shackle kit to it, what is the width of the spring at the eyes ?? And i'm putting a 40 ford front spring on the rear of the car, How wide is 40 front end Perch to Perch. Or how wide apart do I weld the brackets on to the rear axle ? Thanks
The front spring should be 1 3/4 " wide. Do NOT buy Speedway shackles. Pure crap. I think the metal they use is part butter? 1940 Ford front axle is 38 1/2 " wide at the perches.
40 Ford spring pack. Rear spring width is 2 1/4". 44" bracket spread. 41 3/8" eye to eye measured straight across from one eye to the other. 42" eye to eye along the curve which would be the same distance as it would be if the spring was flat. The aftermarket main leaf is from SoCal. Last I heard they don't sell the main leaf by itself anymore.
Read his question again.I know old Fords. The front spring he bought that is 29" wide. That would be 1 3/4" wide right ? !! jeesh.
Ok maybe it was confusing... 40 ford front spring perch width, I need to weld brackets on rear axle - ? Posies superslide spring width...need to order shackles - ?
Now you've got me worried. I forgot where I bought my shackles. I've painted mine already too. Is there any way to tell the butter soft Speedway shackles from other brands by looking at them? Mine had unplated stamped steel plates, with zinc plated steel studs pressed into one side with some kind of knurl to hold them in place, and black nylon bushings, and some nyloc nuts. I may have bought them from Posies or Pete-n-Jake's or somewhere, but can't remember. I'm pretty sure I bought my perches from Speedway, and they seem like a good product.
