I remember your dad very well. Raced with him many times bracket racing in the So Cal area. We ran different classes but the brackets evened things out. He was a good driver and did most of his own work as I remember. His RPU was always clean and ran well. Sorry for your loss as I know you must have good memories of going with him when you could.

Chris, sorry for your loss, I had hoped to meet him someday. His impact had such a broad spectrum on our hobby/sport. Everything thing he touched was so sanitary and performed so well, a true class act! Condolences to the family and friends. RIP Mr. Stevens.

Chris, your dad and I became friends at Bonneville. He was pals with Mike and Dana and pitted next to them. Mike interduced me to him and Jim told me Mike told him I could probably find a couple of mph in his roadster. I am one who sometimes reads the “gray” area of the rule book. I showed and did one thing that did give him the 2 mph and did qualify and set a record that week. I discussed 2 more to do in the off-season which I’m sure he did. Later after he moved to another class, he found out I had a set of tricked out racing carburetors he really wanted to use on the Fontana based engine he was using at the time. I loaned him 2 and again he set records in that class also
We often talked at the Dry Lakes Hall of Fame gatherings in Buelton and my wife and I shared a few drinks at his camp site many times.
Jimmy was a man of many talents and a friend to all helped.
I will always remember him as a friend….JD

Chris, I’m a die hard SBC fan but your dad’s Boss 302 powered RP impressed me as a beautiful, well prepared race car. I didn’t know about his other racing ventures, but he certainly had a full life.
    Godspeed Mr. Stevens.
