I was going through my Barris mags the other day wondering what would that Sled look like finished.Great Idea, I would like to see it finished..... Whatever happen to the project? Happy Trails, Mick
Looking at the Barris shop and the apartments behind the shop wonder what it was like living there, and not realizing the history that someone was getting to watch being created.
twochops. On the L Ernst pix, I don't have the top right or the lower left picture. If you can post those, I can copy. Thanks, Keith
... would be a fun project, perhaps one day when I have time. How about this late 40's Photo at the first Barris shop. The 1940 Ford in the photo is the Bob Creasman Coupe without the fade away fenders that where added later. Sorry for the poor quality.. its all I have. Sectioned and chopped 39-40 Ford pick-up truck... From the Jim Roten Collection... A few more from the GT350Lady Collection...
Thanks Rikster!! I've always wanted to see this Caddy in color. Very kool!! Like a lot of ya, wouldn't it have been kool to been able to see these cars in person......... Happy Trails, Mick
I had hoped that a few more people would join and post some of the old custom car photos in their personal collections to keep this post going... I know there must be a lot of VERY interesting stuff out there... So this is the time to share it, to share the history of the custom cars... From the AHRF site...
I found these photos somewhere on the internet, I forgot where. All I remember that these where the only two custom cars showing... Joe Wilhelm custom... Chuck Porter shop truck... I really like this photo from the Jim Roten collection. It shows the Riley Collins built 1956 Mercury for Ray Cress... coffee stains and cracks... ALso from the Jim Rotan collection comes this 1954 Oldsmobile for Roy Vincents by Riley's This photo (print) comes from the Howard Gribble collection. Howard bought the print from Larry Watson. I really like this photo, it almost looks like the Peanut House was built for a movie set or something like it. Quality is not perfect since it was scanned from a print... but still very intersting....
The top photo is of the Ohansian Mercury by Westergard/Bertollucci. I grew up around the corner from Bertollucci's Auto Body in Carmichael, CA, and remember seeing this car there when I was maybe 8 or 9 years old. That, and my parent's daily driver was a '47 Lincoln Continental coupe...
Yes it sure is the Buddy Ohanesian Mercury... one of the best ever custom cars. Its sad to read the photo description the AHRF has on it... from the AHRF site Photo Description This is what you would call a real fastback. Did it start life as a rare '40 Mercury Convertible Sedan. Or maybe its just a '39 Deluxe Convertible Sedan with added windwings from a '40 convert. The year is probably '51 from the looks of the black plate on the coupe in the upper left. The location is unknown. Mario Baffico Collection." Started with a similar 1940 Mercury four door as the Ohanesian Merc... only this one used a folded chopped top... From an ebay auction from several years ago. Same seller, Johnny Zaro 1941 Ford by Barris...
The following photos all came from ebay auctions. East Coast cars, and unfortunately these low res images are all I have. They went to a new owner for big money. This 1949 Buick was built by Barris for Jim Skonzakis and brought back to the East Coast.. Great photos, wish I had them larger.
