Projects My Deuce Coupe Project

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jimmy Tee, Aug 15, 2009.

  1. Jimmy Tee, I love this build and I'm excited for you to see your Deuce in color!

I just have one dumb question, since the frame is boxed, how does one treat the inside portions of the boxing plates? Are they etch primed before welding them in or something? Sorry, it's just one of those questions I've pondered.

    Thanks
    David

Correct David. The inner part of the frame was etch primed before the boxing plates were welded on. There is also a type of Fish Oil product specifically for cars you can squirt in to confined spaces using a straw to prevent rusting. I'll obviously try get paint in to all areas but may require some touching up with some POR using a brush for any spot the gun didn't reach. That's my strategy.

  3. Thank you Jimmy! I appreciate your response on preventing rust inside the boxed areas of the frame. Now I'm anxious to see some paint on the frame and body.

I finally decided on a color for the Engine. Here it is.
The Oil Pan will be painted Black, as I don't want anything distracting showing from under the Frame when looking at the car side on.
I'm still undecided about the color of the Bellhousing and Gearbox.

It's still a choice between two colours so I can't say just yet. But the Chassis is nearly ready for paint. Coming along nicely.

The Bellhousing came with the 8BA. It was out of a Customline. I had it mated to a Toyota Celica Gearbox. It must have been a RHD Customline judging by the linkages that were on the Gearbox that came with it.

    Colour has been laid.
Yes, it's Black. But I am doing a different colour on the Body, so that colour is still to be determined.

Seriously, it looks great. I'd be interested to know how that centre piece goes in now it's painted, unless that was allowed for.

Yep. I took out the flap disc and took some material off before it went for Paint. It just needed a slight tap with a Rubber Mallet to get it in now.

Jim, I really like the build. It's beautiful!
I really like the fan shoud. Can you tell me how it's secured to the radiator or radiator frame?
    Thanks

Hi Jim. Here are a couple of pics showing how the shroud looks and the mount points on the Radiator.

The Shroud has the two flat pieces on the inner sides. This creates mounting points for the shroud to the side frame of the Radiator using two small self tapper screws on each side, careful not to drill or screw into the Radiator core.
The two flat pieces on the shroud also ensures all the air is being drawn through the Radiator and not through the outer sides.
    I hope this helps.

The coupe is now going through the initial filling and blocking process.
It will now have a coat of Primer, then sit for a few weeks before it's blocked back in readiness for the final Primer.
