Why are Stromberg 97s used more often than 81s, 48s, or Holley/Ford 94s..??

Even with the excellent technical information included in this thread, there is another reason why 97's were/are so popular.

    Hotrodders like the LOOKS!!

When they were all dressed up, (chromed) they liked the external accelerator pump rod and linkage "dancing around" in the sunlight.

Gave them a feeling of "power" watching the linkage move. Even if their rod wouldn't!!!

Yes--a LOT of the appeal of rods is seeing bare machinery whose function is laid out in plain sigh--drag link pulling the wheel around, linkages moving when the driver does anything, exposed pulleys turning, machinery you can relate to directly. The exact opposite of an ECM...a transparent box!

As Bruce said there were a lot of changes in the early carbs.
By the time the 8BA came around Holley had it down pretty good but some old timers still thought it was 1939 and drilled holes.

Make the one with the hole look like the one that didnt get raped ...er, bored.

AND I'll never understand the fascination with Stromleaks. IMO they dont even look good much less perform worth a shit.
Polish up or colorize 94's and you have something visually substantial that looks like it can help produce some power.

What kind of linkage does a single holley 94 need?

EDIT: I guess i was thinking too complicated. That is not an issue.
