Hot Rods Let's finish the 50 Chevy pickup

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Dec 29, 2023.

  1. What's up guys? Everybody knows my story, getting back at it finally, and I want to thank those of you that have sent me conversations, text messages, and called me to keep my head straight. It's been hectic to say the least. The shop is under way, and I've gotta say it's probably the nicest shop I've ever had. I'm in the process of building my paint room. I've been building work benches and shelves, trying to get organized. But I've also been doing some things to the truck. I've got the hood bolted on and the hood latch functioning, I'm missing the hood springs though. The seat is mounted. Needs to be about 5 or 6 inches wider, might cut it and widen it, or look for a different seat, and I started on framing out the bed. Here's a couple of pictures. Don't pay any attention to the truck in the picture of my paint room framing lol... 20231228_195614.jpg 20231229_191604.jpg 20231229_194523.jpg 20231228_195614.jpg 20231229_191604.jpg 20231229_194523.jpg 20231229_194535.jpg 20231229_194601.jpg 20231229_194604.jpg

  3. Shit man, nothing here to be jealous about lol. Would you weld the angle iron to the bedsides, or carriage bolts from the outside?

  4. Well, the bolts would be invisible behind the fender.
A carriage bolt on each end would probably blend in with the rest of the hardware.

Trying to think of some smart ass thing to say to you .... but honestly I'm just smiling ear to ear:D

  9. Honestly I'm not sure where it came from lol. My buddy Roger is a contractor, he ordered it for me. It's 120v, little over 6000cfm. When I asked how much I owed him, he said it's his contribution to get me back in business lol, so I'm not sure what it cost.

Those factory style fender bolts might be better than carriage bolts. 5/16 Philips head machine screw. I don't think you need stainless but plain at the hardware store might cost more than these stainless these days. Screenshot (622).png

  24. Crap. 15 inch plain stock wheels have been hard to find.

  25. Which Chevy pattern? I can’t remember if it is still 6-lug or you changed it to 5-lug. Then, there is car and truck. :D Oh, and glad to see you back. :)

  26. Hey Brother! Looking great, I love the new shop, it looks great! I can’t wait to get pictures of your truck with my “Old Blue” in Bowling Green. It’s great to have a new thread from you, can’t keep a good man down. Now, about you painting a pair of Harley saddle bags for me……

  27. I might have a pair of 15x8, 5 on 4-3/4 in a star pattern if you are interested. Probably not HAMB friendly, but they are chrome steel.

Glad to hear you’re staying busy and starting anew.
Yea carriage bolts through the sides.
    One more thing…..
Install two more cross braces. One along the front of the bed and another somewhere above the rear differential. Don’t use those PIA provided hardware crap. Just buy some stainless metal screws and screw the stainless strips/wood directly into your cross pieces.
You won't need to cut rabett edges in your wood to add the stainless strips.
Just butt them together and use stainless sheetmental screws to go through the wood- strips and into a 1x1 or 2x2 channel.
