  1. Such sad news. Damn cancer again. It's funny for those of us that had never met him, his style is such a part of our lives, it feels like we've been going to his house for BBQ's on a weekly basis. It feels like they will alwyas be there. I guess, with all his inspration, and his body of work, he will be, and we will never forget him.

The next time your at a show, and you get a chance to to rub shoulders with a Barris, or a Winfield, shake his hand, and say thinak you, cause you may never get that chance again.

God Speed to you, good sir.

I have both, yeah they're not the same, but Kustomland has a lot of the same pictures as Grease Machines, there have to be more pics around.
I'm glad the lives of these awesome dudes were well documented.

    Long live customs!

  4. I was thinkin it would be cool if someone could do a very tastefull Watson logo shirt as a memorial and the profits go to his family or maybe cancer research in his name,I lost my whole family to cancer so this hits close to home....only of course with the permission of his family.just a thought (john Denichs pic)

  7. I think this is a great idea, as it also hits home with me with my loss of a good friend and big time hero to cancer last week. I hate this disease.

Does anybody have the ability to contact the family about possibly doing this?

  8. Pm Roger O' Dell and I'm sure he could pass it on to the family.

  9. Great idea!I'd buy one!

When my dad (muscle car guy) saw a couple of my buddie's flaked out cars, he said when he used to live in Whittier in the 60's, there was some white guy who used to paint cars like that in Bellflower. I later showed him an article about Larry Watson and how his "bellflower" look innovated things.

RIP Larry Watson. Thanks for being a trailblazer.

Larry raised the bar on traditional paint jobs. He thought outside the box. A job well done RIP

I agree 100%. The Kustom Car community has so many legends that are still around and they are very accessable to us. I have been able to hang out with a few and hear stories. I can never get enough of them.

    RIP Larry Watson

In the last few years I had the privilege of getting to know Watson a bit, I remember when I first meant him at his museum in Victorville and after the tour we had a chance to talk. I told him that when I was a teenager cursing Van Nuys blvd., back in the mid sixties we thought the he was the “Epitome of Cool” and we all wanted to be Larry Watson, he just laughed and said right. The truth is, he was and we did. Rest in Peace Larry…

Larry and i were very close in the 60's (he did 3 of my cars) and we would cruise all the time and opened the Whiskey--moving from the Peppermint West--did many crazy car things and partied in the Hollywood hills in the 60's after a 3am breakfast at Barney's Beanery--A good guy and a complement to the Hot Rod industry--
The pics are at a party a called the "Checkered Past"--Tom Kelly as well was there the last of the old strippers --

    R.I.P Mr. Larry Watson.

A legendary custom painter and pinstriper. I love the Thunderbird, it was the first car featuring a silver pearl and candy burgundy paint job.
