I love a dual quad set up! I'm wanting to run one like yours or an Edelbrock C26 on mine.

Just under 6 months now, mine is still sitting in pieces in the garage. Maybe next week to Boyd's and then maybe 3/27/24...

What I didn't say, was that I pushed it into the pole shed right after this pic. Took a "quick" job working on a '59 Ford. Ain't got any smarter in retirement.

  16. I forget what mess we had made at that point, it was just after doing the final runout check on the bellhousing and installing the new clutch, but CJ probably said that to me at the time, lol

I drove a 327 powered car today. It is definitely not a Chevy though....

maybe in ‘69, after I blew up my 401 race car engine, and before heading to VN, I picked up this junk yard “Corvette” engine and a TH400 to replace it. I made my own mounts and headers back then using my small Victor oxy-acetylene torch.
As to be expected, the 4 bolt main block turned out to be 2 bolt when I went to rebuild it 20 years later; but I sold the ignition and carb for what I paid for the motor and th400 on eBay, by advertising all the numbers in the listing. A Corvette restorer liked the numbers and bought them. Still have the motor on a stand in my shop.So mayby it was corvette.
I got another 10k miles on it after the rebuild, but it has been sitting now since forever.

San Francisco side street near the Steinhart Aquarium It was nothing fancy, but it was one of the best running, no maintenance cars ever…for my purposes.

    Hello,

Yes, as an experienced hot rod teen, I learned a lot about cars in general. The functions and types of motors in our usual rebuilds, speed parts additions and experimental items to make a car go just a little faster and enjoy it without much maintenance. Our teen cars did see us doing a lot of changes, just to see where and what worked well.

So, by the time we were ready to move on to the next level of activity after high school, it was get a car that was going to last. Who know or knew what was ahead and how much it was going to cost as we moved along in life. Our mom had our (brother and me) lives planned out. 4 years of college and then two to 4 more years of a master’s degree and PHD advanced degree in whatever field we were interested in at the time. Hot rods, desert motorcycle racing, and surfing did not always fall in line with an advanced post graduate degree. Ha!

I bought a 65 El Camino and it had the new 327 Chevy motor. It looked like an old 283 and when the hood was opened, ripe for the aluminum finned accessories to make it look better. But, that cost more money and the way we were headed, it was a money-costing road ahead. So, a simple motor, and one car build that I hoped would allow me to concentrate on college studies or at least, ponder the future without breaking the bank or low amount in the bank.

As it turned out, the 327 motor with a 4 barrel carb was one of the most trouble free motors any of us had from back then to the present time when we sold it to a young kid from Dana Point. By that time 11-12 years later, it had 125k miles on it. It had seen plenty of coastal cruises and campouts, even into Baja, Mexico. But it was the daily start up and reliability that was the most enjoyable aspect of owning a 327 powered El Camino.

If money were no object when I purchased the El Camino, perhaps we would have bought a similar looking red, two door station wagon. At least, it would have given us some protection from the elements when outdoor camping was a necessity.

But, the most memorable moments in the small cab were the long drives to Northern California along the rugged coastal roads and view points, all along the up and down road trips. That was enough to give us plenty of quiet time and conversations we still remember to this day.
upload_2024-3-27_9-58-27.png A car/truck for the ages...+ that most reliable motor set up...
    Note:

Prior to selling the 327 powered El Camino, we had dabbled for 6 years with a 327 powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery project we got along the way. It took us months of hard work and repair to make it safe and reliable, just like the 327 motor. That 327 was also a motor that was trouble free and kept us moving all over So Cal during our photojournalist days. Throw in a nice vacation or two combined with the photo shoots and it was a fun way to live/enjoy life together as wandering 20 somethings. YRMV

My favorite 327 is Maureen, born on this day xxxx years ago. Hence the roadster number. 62.jpeg 20221022_104457.jpg 5902.jpeg
The Chevy has a 1968 over the counter 327 L79, what a great motor

3/27/2024 is winding down and I don't have anything all that great to share but I did want to add to the thread.

My 327 isn't all prettied up yet... but I do have this neat header:

    NOS Hedman on pass side:

    20231218_203618.jpg
Angry Texan Header built to match the Hedman style for the driver's side to clear the steering box.

    Header in Coupe .jpg 20231218_203550.jpg

It still needs a bunch of external parts: pulleys, brackets, a generator, clutch/flywheel, etc.
