Help Identifying a SBC Cam

I have a small block Chevy cam that was given to me probably 20 years ago. The guy told me it is a 30-30 cam...It's been sitting in a drawer in my garage, so it is still in fine condition...There are some numbers on it...Behind the first journal it is cast in "C26" back by the rear journal it has "GM60" and "2798"... Anyone know what this is? Is is hydraulic or solid?

look to see if ther maybe be 100 or 200 ,,could be racer brown cam
also GM6O was used on GM v6 back in teh 80;s

It's definitely not a V-6 cam..I pulled it out of the engine myself...Was in a 350....

A factory chev Duntov cam was 30-30 mechanical lifters.

I'm guessing there's probably not enough info to go on. you could mic the small way and long way on a lobe and subract, then multiply by 1.5 to get the lift....that'll give you an idea how big it is.

Since you don't happen to have the lifters that were run with the cam....I'd consider it art at this point.

I have a 327/350 cam and it has the same "2798" number on it, as does one from a 327/300. They have different ones near the first journal "B43" and "C35". Both of them also have "GM60". The 327/350 cam has 112 stamped in the rear and the 327/300 cam is stamped 247. There was a guy in Grand Haven that worked as a cam grinder for many years grinding cams for chevrolet, and he told me that the "GM60" was the foundry the cams were made, the "B43" and "C35" were date codes, and the "2798" number was a core code number. The core number told them what series or batch the cores was from. It did not mean that the cam was for a specific application. One core/batch number could have been ground for many different applications/specs.
The "ID" number would have been stamped on the rear end of the camshaft that would be the card number that the cam was ground from. That number would be the one needed to get specs for the camshaft. At that time, he had copies of many of the cards that he had used when he was grinding cams. It was amazing how many of those numbers and specs he had memorized!!! I wish I would have asked him if I could get copies of those...... He did say there were many times the cores they would get for grinding were over 5 years old!!

Do you know anyone with a lathe? Chuck it up in the lathe and measure the lobes with a dial indicator. If you do not know anyone with a lathe, you could always set it up on a couple of wooden blocks with a "V" cut in them to hold the cam steady, one under the first and one under the last bearing surfaces, oil the "V" and the bearing surfaces and use a dial indicator to measure the lobes. Not quite as nice as a lathe, but it will work.

Vn, find a race engine shop in your area. Ask them to run it through a "cam doctor" for you. That will tell you everything you need to know.
And you can run new lifters on an old cam.. Use lots of "moly" paste cam lube and follow "new cam " run in procedures..

30-30 and Duntov are completely different cam; Duntov PN famously ended in "097", and it was frequently called that. Core number I think was 098. No need for a lathe if you have a bare block to drop the cam into...it will hold all needed to indicate.

Thanks for everyone's replies...Think I'll take to the shop and have it checked...Next question though...I guess depending what I find on specs, how do I know if it is solid or hydraulic? Probably need to find what it specs out at first....

Since it fits a small block Chevy, I wouldn't spend a lot of time on identifying it. If it were a hot cam for a '55 Packard or something, I could see it, but you can buy performance cams for sbcs out of gumball machines, including a blueprint of the "30-30", if that's what you want.

I came across this old post when attempting to figure out how to identify a cam I just pulled out of a rebuilt 327 I just bought. I kept all lifers in order and it appears the motor was barley used. I won’t use the cam unless I can tell what it is? It has the following markings.

F stamps on the end with two white dots
Pink paint next to the distributor drive gear with a blue dot
Then back one lobe is yellow paint.

It also has the letters cWc behind the third journal
Near journal 1 are the letters 50 19
And then C4 D4
Then right next to the fuel pump lobe is EP1

Any ideas?
