    Hey,

The Vedette started out in the same design studio as the fourty-nine Mercury under the hand of Ford's Design head E.T. Gregorie. Ford Motor Company developed the design thru the mid to late fourties, and decided against marketing a smaller Ford for the american market. It was then that Ford shipped off the design work to Ford of France.

Holy cow, amazing work! Very, very nice. Did you really cut the metal with a hand saw?

Nice Peugeot too. Very beautiful car.

  4. Wow! Never even heard of this car, but it´s a beauty. Not something I would cut up though... well.... unless it was a real wreck to start with.

    Hey,

My money says that the 2dr. & DHC versions of the 203s were the work of some outside coachbuilder, perhaps the same builder as the Facel Vega, and not OEM. These were probably available from the Peugeot dealers catalog, but not the factory. Some very tasty iron, so typical of the French!

    Dig that fan!!!!

  7. I was thinking the same thing. That looks like a coachbuilders badge on the rear pillar.

    Hey,

Further research shows that French coachbuilder Pichon-Parat built some 2dr. Vedettes. Swiss coachbuilder Worblaufen built some 2dr. Peugeot 203 cabriolets, and probably that FHC you've pictured.

The 203 cab and coupe in the pics are factory cars. I've seen pictures of totaly wrecked coupes (like a T'boned one) that were actually rebuild, given the rarity of such a car and the price tag I don't think anybody would customize one, plus you'd end up probably murdered by some Peugeot fans.
As for the Swiss made cab 203, a couple of them rusted to the core were sold at an auction early this year in Switzerland, they're gona be rebuilt.

    Nice job! Very cool-

  13. All the more reason. Anyone wanna post my photoshop effort on one of their forums?:D

No, I wouldn´t really cut one up either. Shame as it makes a nice car even better. Just have to build one from a sedan I suppose.

Hey Pimpin paint - what is that in your avatar? A Delahaye (since we´re talking French Coachbuilts)?

Your Vedette was an ambitious project, and has turned out very nicely.

I really like your Peugeot, too!

    Hey,

I can see it now on every Peugeot website in the known world........................a picture of James D's avatar with the words ''WANTED DEAE OR ALIVE FOR HEINOUS CRIMES AGAINST THE PEUGEOT MARQUE " I can't help but think that it wouldn't be a bad time to invest in a funny nose, glasses & a hat!

Given that they built 203s from 1947-1960 finding a semi-clean one to 2dr., chop & section shouldn't be to tough. I jus hope I don't find one in California anytime soon.

The vehicle in my avatar is a 1949 Delahaye 135 Coach with body by french coachbuilder Faget Varnet. I don't think that they built but a handful of these in this style, and then only on the Delahaye chassis.

Beautiful kustom job, here's a stock Vedette convertible that really reinforces the mini-Merc look. Gotta be a rare unit today.
