Funny enough, a couple months ago I took out my instrument panel to change a couple burnt out lamps, and forgot to reconnect the speedo. I haven't reconnected it yet, since I'm too lazy to take the panel out again. So I guess I'm not an amateur, for now!

Can you just take the cable & reconnect it while everything is in place? If you don't know how fast you're going, the "man" is gonna get ya!

A dozen years ago I bought about eight NOS rear mount water temps like above, but mine had black bezels and ten foot senders. Probably from a wartime boat. They were wrapped in cosmoline soaked fabric.

Came across a few more antique Stewart Warner parts desk display signs.

Valette is a French word. The sender end of the cable is weird, not like any I've seen before. And that cable is rather short. I bet it's for a motorcycle, in kilometers not MPH.

Looks 45 degree taper, not 37. Will be standard brass compression fitting .

I think you mean standard brass flare fitting.

  17. Or stack a female 1/8" NPT to 3 AN adapter on that Parker fitting you linked. Could also hack off the male NPT on the Parker fitting and cut back a male 1/8 NPT to 3 AN fitting and braze the two parts together to make one fitting. Used to make metric to JIC hydraulic fittings that way years back.

No, the fitting can not be removed from the gauge. It's one with the gauge. The link for Amazon is incorrect too, the fitting I need is female flare to male npt.
Rich... yes once I got the gauge adapted to male NPT, I planned to find a fitting to AN fitting. I have 3AN here and its too small, most likely a 4AN. I like your suggestion regarding combining fitting to make one. Man, I love this place... I don't care what my neighbors think.

Prather, thank you for the link of the flare nut. Once in hand, a simpler idea might become clear.

Just saw these on everyone's favorite auction site. They are marked Stewart Warner and made in USA. Anyone know if they were aftermarket or an OEM item on some car? Not my auction btw

I did confirm the early SW oil pressure gauge is 1/4" flare fitting... but had to build one from scratch. I can elaborate more in PM if anyone wants to know without cluttering up this thread. thumbnail - 2023-02-07T211705.903.jpg thumbnail - 2023-02-10T175812.616.jpg thumbnail - 2023-02-10T175817.863.jpg thumbnail - 2023-02-10T175832.189.jpg thumbnail - 2023-02-10T175837.926.jpg
