    Hi,
I got a call from a mate of a guy I know this am, he has two 371's one in the car with out a starter and the other off a marineised engine he bought, the one off the marinised engine isn't fitting properly to the 371 in the car, he was saying its a 6 volt starter and by the sounds a manual (or some kind of solid) flywheel on the boat motor...... now from memory there are two different tooth counts on the early Olds right ? so assuming the 6 volt starter is from an early car would it be for the different tooth count flywheel then the 371 ? it sounds like it should make sense if thats the case, 371 you would expect to be the same as 324 right ? I have a spare I can lend him to check.

Yep...and the only reason I knew that was that I bought a 53 303 w/stick trans out of NJ for my 40

Former hamber Coldwar spotted that it was a stick car on another site "junkyard tour"...thank you CW :)

Cadillac, Oldsmobile, and all V8 Buicks had 12 volt systems in '53.
